Perfume lovers- I want to try something new!

I live in the back of beyond, so haven't been able to trot into Les Senteurs for ages. I am hankering for something to really fall in love with. If I list things I like/ hate, would you scent fanatics suggest things for me to sniff? .
Wear or have worn and loved or liked, roughly in groups.. Diorella, Cristalle, Eau D'Hadrien. Like Parfum de Therese but have only tried a sample. L'eau D'Hiver. Miss Dior (pre reformulation). L'heure bleu (pre reformulation) and Mitsouko (ditto). Nuit de Noel (Caron, only at Christmas!). Chanel's cuir de Russie, Vol De Nuit (guerlain again). Molinard de Molinard and Habanita (Molinard). Narcisse Noir (Caron). Mimosa pour Moi, Philosykos. Chanel no. 19, and No 5. Diorissimo. Bellodgia (Caron) Currently mainly wear Ormonde woman or Diorella . Like most older Dior scents actually, although they have been ruined by the stupid EU rules. Tend to like most Annick Goutal, and Serge Lutens, even if I wouldn't wear them.

May have forgotten a few as I am very keen on scent.
Dislike- Most Creed scents, I have no idea why . Hated 4160 Tuesdays Paris 1948 , which I thought I might love, and Lady Rose Lion. Really Hated LouLou, and Rive Gauche, both to the point of nausea and headaches. Not keen on Yves saint Laurents in general although I like Opium on someone else and I did like Paris . Not mad on rosey fragrances generally, although I love the smell of a real rose.
That is a rather long list! I am excited to see what you all come up with.

Hi Helly. I swear by sunflowers. It's only cheap but gorgeous.

hellymelly · 09/09/2014 22:55

Sunflowers is not for me I'm afraid. Too cheerful maybe? A bit rosey? Not sure. Maybe it just smells more contemporary than I am used to ( I live in vintage, so old fashioned fragrances suit me better). Thanks for the idea though, and do you really live in a lighthouse with a ghost?

Guerlain Apres l'ondee?

Hermes Hermessences Rose Ikebana smells like real roses.

If you like leather scents, then maybe Bvlgari Black or Hermes Kelly Caleche?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/09/2014 09:14

Ha ha. No wish I did. I'm just obsessed with light houses and the sea and I'd love to meet a ghost.

I live in the back of beyond too so I joined Fragantica. There's lots of information on the site, you can also buy or trade perfumes and decants.Your taste is pretty high end and vintage and so different to mine I wouldn't like to recommend perfumes to you( I love fresh, rosy green and woody spicy powdery perfumes and my recent purchases have been Annick Goutals Unit Etoile and Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin).Alternatively fill in the questionnaire at Nose and buy the 5 samples of niche for 10 Euros( which is fun).

Stokey · 10/09/2014 09:31

Helly you sound far more of a perfume expert than me.

I got quite into CB I hate perfume To See a Flower - it's a bit like Eau d'hiver and Apres L'Ondee. And I guess you know En Passant? It doesn't last much but I love the earthiness of it.

Channel's Coromandel? I got some good samples for Surrender to Chance last year. They did a winter sample scent which was a good way of trying a variety of thins.

hellymelly · 10/09/2014 10:38

I spent my honeymoon in a lighthouse. 'Twas lovely. Anyway- Great suggestions, thankyou. Woody spicy powdery sounds good to me too by the way. I will go and look at Fragrantica. Years ago after dd1 was born DH paid for me to go and have a couple of hours with Roja Dove in his fragrant lair in Harrods, we went through lots of things by a process of elimination , smelling tester strips blind. Eventually got to Miss Dior, he said he knew I would like chypres as soon as I walked in. However, although I love it, it rather reminded me of a friend and so felt slightly wrong on me, and then they messed with it and I don't like the latest version. All the old scents I loved have changed and I can't get my head round the knew versions, although Diorella is not too bad still. I think there must be something out there that I will completely love.. I do really like Annick Goutal's Nuit Etoilee actually, winter forests being my sort of thing, so I should get a sample of La Fille de Berlin to try. I don't think I have smelled En Passant ever.
I am not a Summer person, I like the cold, and look forward to Autumn and Winter, so tend to like scents with that sort of feel.
Haven't smelled coromandel either, although rouge coromandel was my favourite Chanel lipstick for years.

There's a new UK decant website as well - scent samples uk.com.They seem to sell from 1-20 mls of perfume. The reviews seem to be OK but I haven't personally ordered from them yet. They do stock some Chanels and other exclusive brands.

Sweetasstevia · 10/09/2014 13:59

Have you tried l'air de rien by Miller Harris. Leather, patchouli, very sexy, a bit dirty ; )

itsnothingoriginal · 10/09/2014 14:11

Ooh yes Miller Harris and also like some of the Shay and Blue fragrances. Might be worth a try? I love Annick Goutal too - TK Maxx had some fairly recently at bargain prices..

hellymelly · 10/09/2014 14:38

No, not tried any Miller Harris, that sounds delicious, I will see if I can get a sample from anywhere.

OP posts:
hellymelly · 10/09/2014 14:56

Actually, now i've googled I remember I have tried some Miller Harris, they stock a few of them in a shop I sometimes go to, i haven't sniffed that one though. They have others that sound nice, but no samples seemingly.

hellymelly · 10/09/2014 14:57

TK Maxx has Annick Goutal? I'll have to check that out! Haven't heard of Shay and Blue, will go and google again!

My favourite vintage is Estee Lauder Private collection (the original one). Quite green, quite strong and very distinctive.

Sweetasstevia · 10/09/2014 16:19

You can usually get 5ml samples of l'air de Rien on eBay.

koomkebear · 10/09/2014 16:36

I used to wear Mitsouko but can't any more, and the Clarins Eau dynatissmente (sp!) sunshine version.

I've recently bought Hermes Eau de Merveilles and love it - it's got sultry undertones like mitsouko but there's a salty orange-ness to it too. worth trying

hellymelly · 11/09/2014 17:08

Haven't smelled any Hermes stuff for ages, since leaving London probably.

OP posts:
Apatite1 · 11/09/2014 17:23

Hermes ambre narguile is worth a sniff.
