help! I'm a bridesmaid without a dress yet.

Please help me oh wise ladies of style and beauty. I am neither stylish nor beautiful but I'm going to be a bridesmaid in about 7 weeks and have to buy my own outfit. I hate shopping so have stuck my head in the sand and not bought anything but even I am starting to get twitchy by the lack of a frock.

The bride is going to take me shopping if I can't find anything but the earliest we can get together is just 3 weeks before the big day which makes me feel even more nervous.

Wedding is not very traditional and is being held in a barn. Bride's only stipulation is that the dress be purple (a darker shade, not lilac). I am tall- 5 10 ish with 28 h boobs. Anything strapless or requiring no bra is absolutely out. Even the best scaffolding can't hold my boobs up without straps and I don't want to spend the day hoiking them up. Grin Waist is between an 8 and a 12 depending on the shop. Legs are ok but usually encased in nice forgiving 70 denier black.

Budget is up to 150 but preferably under 100. There is another bridesmaid (who is as bad as me and doesn't have a dress yet either) but we don't have to match just both be in purple.

Any suggestions of suitable dresses gratefully received!

maybe this with a sparkly sash/belty thing?

Ooh I hadn't thought of bravissimo. I'd forgotten they did clothes as well. Thanks for the suggestion. I wouldn't normally pick something with a frilly skirt but I'll try it on during the week and see how it looks. I've got some (awesome) purple shoes already so will see if they go together.

There's plenty about that you could have tailored to fit, of course. Depends if you mind a wee bit of faff, not that expensive though.

this for example, or this. BHS have good few purple bridesmaids dresses, they do a long and a shorter version of the infinity dress which would fit without being adapted. here.

Oh right, they call them 'twist and wrap' is all the same thing. Easier to see how they work on the TwoBirds site. They look like a bit of PITA to me but might be worth a try if your keen to avoid alterations.

How about this. The Phase 8 one that Mrs Lettuce posted is also gorgeous.

Thank you one and all. I braved the shops today and found a lovely plum coloured full length dress in Debenhams, similar to one linked above. Price was £60- went to pay and got told it was buy one get one free. So I picked a lovely silk dress. Then they said it everything was half price, even though they were already reduced. So I got two dresses that should have been a hundred pounds each for £30 Shock Grin

The bride approves so now I just need a new bra to show off the cleavage effectively and a shawl or something to go round my shoulders.

Thank you for taking the time to post suggestions, it made me a bit braver when it came to trying different styles on. Now I've just got to get over my fear of hairdressers and having my photograph taken and I'll be sorted. champagne will help with that I reckon

Wow - you did well.
You'll have to post a picture of you looking stunning in your new, very cheap, dresses.
Get that bubbly down ya, shoulders back and smile!
Enjoy it.
