What to wear to a winter wedding?

Only ever been to summer ones which are easy. It's always so fun to dress up for a wedding don't want to go boring and want to try and look like a babe (ha). Haven't a clue what to wear to a winter one. Does one go a bit smarter? It's also a city wedding at a venue and haven't been to many of those. I've mostly been to country marquee style ones so just lovely summer dresses etc. is a winter city wedding a different kettle of fish?

Coast have nice occasion dresses but in darker colours suitable for a wedding. Dark greens, navy and purple.

I got married in November, lots of people wore purple if I recall.

My winter weddings outfit is a purple velvet skirt it is slightly fishtail but not obvious !!! And a soft wrap fine mohair caardigan that has a satin tie. Worn with a soft satin cami which has wide straps so can take off carrdi if it gets hot. Then long black coat with bright scarf/ shawl. Only things that change with the years are the shoes / tights / bag. Bought it from Monsoon years ago and it was best money I spent as it is ageless.
