Trainers, what is cool with the cool kids nowadays?

I have a really bad ankle that isn't ever going to get better. Heels are out forever. I need to wear an orthotic and have been wearing brogues for work.

Now I'm working at home and can get away with something more comfy. I figure I'm only 36 I can still get away with some bright coloured funky trainers.

What do I buy? Air Max? New Balance? I have converse already, but I was something more running trainer ish. (Even though I will clearly not be doing any running.

Oh, and are flat lace up ankle boots acceptable this winter? Please say yes.

I've got these in a dark yellow/gold colour.

They are like little pillows for your feet. Bliss.

PippiL · 05/09/2014 19:15

Yes! That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about. They look fab.

Do you think you need to get those kind of trainers in a pretty bright colour, rather than play safe with dark colours?

I'm hoping I look more cool kid, and less Diana out of Great British Bake off!

I have these

Dead comfy

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 05/09/2014 19:36

I am 36.

I have these New Balance I do love them and like them with cuffed khakis or jeans.

I would wear converse if I could but I've got odd feet - long and thin with sticky-up big toes.

I would be after tethers' Nikes if I was buying again Grin

tethersend · 05/09/2014 19:37

I don't have those, but that's a good price- mine are these.

HaroldLloyd · 05/09/2014 19:39

I've only got converse ones but I am sick of them, and they are not as comfy as proper trainers.

They are lovely those Nike ones.

PippiL · 05/09/2014 19:52

Dang, those mustard ones tethers has are much nicer...and I can't find them anywhere.

AF - I like your Nike ones. Do they have a mesh top or a solid fabric one? I can't tell properly from the photo

tethersend · 05/09/2014 20:08

Can only find one pair slightly similar here... But TBH, I like the purple ones.

AnyFucker · 05/09/2014 20:11

It's a very light but solid fabric, Edith

PippiL · 05/09/2014 20:15

Thanks for looking tethers.

But sod it, I have just clicked the buy button on the bright yellow ones. They were £36 something with the extra 15% off the sale price. I couldn't pass that discount up.

I'm certain I'm not really cool enough for them, but hopefully if they fit ok they do look comfy.

PippiL Diana from Bake Off has v good taste in trainers. Even DH was impressed.

SwedishEdith · 05/09/2014 20:22

Thanks AF

embox · 06/09/2014 10:12

If you don't mind spending a lot £80 the nike free runs are quite in and have really nice colours! I'm tempted to steal dds Wink they are also sooo lightweight Smile

BritabroadinAsia · 06/09/2014 13:30

Am not down with the kids, but also like the New Balance 996s, which are a slightly different shape and a bit narrower then the equally lovely 574s that SarahB has. Mine are grey and pink and make me smile, but think a lovely bright pair of Nikes like tethers has would make me smile even more...

Awks · 06/09/2014 13:47

I have these and it's like walking on pillows www.saucony.com/en/jazz-original/11843W.html

PippiL · 16/09/2014 12:11

Update:

The Nike Air Pegasus arrived finally. They are much more orange than the pics on ASOS.

They are like walking on pillows and they make me smile. Thanks so much for the help.
