middle aged hair - to cut or not to cut....

There was an interesting discussion on Vanessa Feltz's BBC Radio London program the other morning about Madonna having cut her hair into a sensible (and in Vanessa's opinion) boring shoulder length bob. How do mumsnetters of Madge's age (same age as me,in fact) have their hair...mine is in a bob, simply because it's rubbish hair and looks crap if any longer, which is sad as I'd quite like longer hair to sweep up in a messy up-do which I think looks great...

Vanessa should take a wee look in the mirror. Long hair worn like hers gives me the creeps.

I don't see any problem with older women having long hair, but aesthetically it does tend to drag down your features so it can accentuate wrinkles and droopiness.
My MIL has almost waist length greying hair and it is really not flattering, though she is 61 so thats an entirely different matter to the OP.

mmm,not sure if I had beautiful thick hair whether I'd wear it in that mode...wouldn't suit my more casual style - V is a bit of a glamourpuss

How old is madonna? 46?

and to think I'm very nearly old enough to be your mum Fio.

My hair varies from almost shoulder length to a few inches shorter. Because it's so thick it just sort of hangs there in no particular style. Often wear it up though. Short hair would not suit me at all. Am considering dieing as I'm going grey too.

Mercy · 22/09/2006 16:53

maybe I should rephrase that. I may dye my hair as I'm going grey.

I'm 44 and mines in a bob,tres chic I'll have you know!
I think Vanessa could do with a hair makeover, although long hair does look nice on us oldies it needs to be in great condition and not bleached to within an inch of it's life.
