Oh forgot to add black shoes.

I'm struggling with that, being a recent convert to navy. I've tried navy opaques and not convinced. Tried black - definitely not. Tried grey and that works well if top is grey. Best so far has been navy 20 denier tights with a light sheen.

Abra1d · 03/09/2014 08:07

What about 'invisible' tights so you look as though you've got bare legs (but haven't really)? Not 'tan', but really invisible.

MissScatterbrain · 03/09/2014 08:07

Nude?

HappyGirlNow · 03/09/2014 08:21

No tights are really invisible... Nude tights are very ageing.. I second grey but also black - black and navy is a very chic look, worn a lot in Paris..

HappyGirlNow · 03/09/2014 08:22

Actually sorry, didn't notice mention of black shoes.. I'd def go with black tights then..

AwkwardSquad · 03/09/2014 08:39

I found black tights didn't seem to work. Is it the denier? Any recommendations?

MilkThistle187 · 03/09/2014 09:58

I wear navy opaques with navy skirts and dresses

Stokey · 03/09/2014 10:07

I tend to go for nude tights and coloured shoes with navy.

Brown can work too, but you'd need brown shoes

Stevie77 · 03/09/2014 10:16

I don't think there's a single, definitive answer. Depends on the top and shoes you're wearing with it. Grey with a grey/navy top, navy with other colours. I also quite like black opaques with black shoes and navy skirt/dress, can look very chic!

Greenstone · 03/09/2014 10:19

Black, but preferably 30 or 40 denier - no higher.

minkah · 03/09/2014 10:24

Charcoal.

polyhymnia · 03/09/2014 11:28

Dark grey or black.

CointreauVersial · 03/09/2014 13:24

I came onto this thread hoping for some kind of consensus (I'm struggling with this question too) but you all say different things! Grin

TsukuruTazaki · 03/09/2014 13:27

Black tights with navy are awful

hellsbellsmelons · 03/09/2014 16:11

I wear navy tights with navy dress.
Obviously thick tights.
Looks fine (well I thought it did) people often say I look nice (are they being sarcastic?)
Worried now! Confused

polyhymnia · 03/09/2014 16:17

One of the reasons I tend to prefer grey is that it's almost impossible to find two navies the same so it always seems like the worst of all worlds, ie trying to be matchy but failing.

polyhymnia · 03/09/2014 16:18

I do sometimes wear dark berry with navy too .

SuperGlue · 03/09/2014 18:18

I wear grey, dark green, plum, maroon, brown tights with navy. Rarely navy unless the dress / skirt had a pattern of another colour to break it up. So floral navy & cream I would wear navy opaques.

Never anything other than opaque! I am 44 and have NEVER worn 'nude' tights in my life and I never intend to either.

RabbitSaysWoof · 03/09/2014 19:26

Thanks for suggestions, think I'll try grey, I assumed black would be fine but I think my tights are too thick it looked wrong.

this is the top

this is the skirt

I never understand the MN hatred of nude tights. Perhaps people don't match them up carefully enough with their skin tone or choose ones that are too thick a denier? The ones I had were called Foundation for the Legs, or something like that, so they looked completely invisible, as though you had bare legs, but legs that were very evenly skin toned and moisturised--but not shiney. You couldn't actually tell that there was any fabric on them at all unless you were very close.

SuperGlue · 03/09/2014 20:17

rabbit gorgeous top and skirt. I would wear plum colored opaques with that outfit.

abra I don't know, perhaps it is a throw back to my childhood and nude tights were worn by old ladies or grannies. I don't know. I do know that I can't get over it and can not bring myself to wear them. Ever.
