General info:
31
5'9/10
13st 7lb
Bra size 40D (yes that is correct and they're the best fitting comfiest bras I've ever had!)
Usual style: tunics/dresses over leggings worn until they get holes in, ballet pumps or knee high boots - - - I can't wear heels due to back problems - depending on weather and coat is usually a north face all purpose rain mac

I feel fat, ugly and anonymous and that clothes shops are for either young 20somethings/teens or Middle Ages ladies and us 30 something's have been forgotten so I've Bodged together my own look that does me no favours

I'm in desperate need of help and am on a high street budget - £200 for several items at most

Please help!

Thank you!

I'm close to your height and size and I've found Roman Originals pretty good for my shape. Plus the prices and quality are acceptable as well.

Maybe switch up the leggings with some wide-leg trousers? Something with a pattern that doesn't scare you too much. Worn with a simple top that shows off your décolletage, it would be change from your usual.

What did you enjoy wearing when you were younger/pre-DCs? What is your body shape roughly? Pear? Hourglass?

Ididntseeitsoitdidnthappen · 02/09/2014 15:25

Thanks for the recommendation andi I've never heard of them so will look

Pre-DC's my look was of it's era, very 90's! I was also a size 6-8 and could get away with a lot more than I can now - tight tops/jeans mini skirts etc

Body shape if I lost weight would be hour glass, but it's now pear with my bad areas being my hips, belly and thighs

I'm a bit older and bigger than you, but I tend to go for:

  • wide leg trousers
  • wide leg/boot cut jeans (skinny jeans make my legs look like parsnips)
  • vests with cardigans
  • tunics
  • dresses with leggings and boots
I try to stick to colours that suit me (I'm dark, so this is autumn colours, but it sounds like you're more spring/summer), which definitely makes a difference as I feel more comfortable and confident. I also wear a lot of scarves in "my" colours.

In terms of buying clothes I buy from La Redoute, sometimes H&M, Asos, matalan for cheap basics and some of the ethical/organic fashion places like Braintree and People Tree.

How about a sort of casual version of 50s then? Full skirt hides all problems and balances your shape, flat chunky boots and a cropped denim or leather jacket to casual it up for every day.
boots £35
casual dress
v neck
floral
floral skirt
tartan skirt
faux leather jacket
big scarves like this
