Dry hair, flaky nails and bad skin...

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I have all of the above. I don't dye or regularly straighten my hair anymore but it's dry and full of split ends.
Over the past couple of years I've become spotty and my skin is in poor condition, my nails have always been terrible, weak and flaky.
Are there any supplements I can take to help all this or foods I should be eating that could help? I've recently turned 32 if that has any bearing on anything.

Thanks

bumping because I too have flaky nails and dry hair.

Although I've found using argan oil through the ends after I've washed it before blow drying has really helped.

Are you getting healthy fats, such as olive oil and avocado, and fatty acids like Omega 3 (eg oily fish, walnuts) in your diet? I take a cod liver oil supplement for my dodgy joints and that has omega 3 in it. Do you get enough iron?

I find massaging Vaseline into my nails helps when they start peeling off. For my dry hair I find a coconut oil treatment overnight a couple of times a week helps. If your nails and hair are worsening it may be worth seeing your GP about having your thyroxine levels checked.

Thyroid?

Thanks :)
Probably not getting enough healthy oils so I'll get some cod liver oil, fish etc
I googled thyroid problems and I have other issues which could be symptomatic of a thyroid problem. I'll try and get a drs appointment and see what they say.
It's getting me down now, I try and be nice to my hair and skin and it gets me no where!

This might sound daft but do you drink much water?

My nails were terrible but I noticed a huge difference the last time I tried to up my water intake.

Possibly not as much as I should, get most of my fluid intake from coffee....

Definitely worth getting a blood test to rule out thyroid, iron and vitamin deficiencies.

In the meantime if you don't have enough 'good fat' in your diet, try 3 portions of oily fish a week (and if you hate it a supplement). Make sure you're eating sufficient protein each day as a diet low in protein can affect hair/skin health.

Drink enough water - you don't need gallons but enough to keep properly hydrated. Fresh fruit and veg for vit c.

I have silica, vit b12, and biotin supplements along with vit d and iron (GP put me on these two as levels were too low) and my skin. hair and nails are starting to improve. It's taken around 9 months too see much improvement with my hair but my skin and nails were better much quicker.

Vitamin d has been miraculous for me and my hair skin and nails. Google it as I'm short of time but it is utterly amazing. Dr suggested it for acne ... My skin is now clear. Read up on it!!!
