Get some La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo.

I expected it to be some overhyped-on-mumsnet shite, to be honest.

It's not, it's the bomb. I'm 40 too, and was getting horrid skin just before my period, especially on my chin. About 3 months of Effaclar later, and I don't get a single spot. Blackheads greatly reduced, too. I adore it.

Yes, it is hormonal, and I assume heading towards menopause.

I am finding that it's way worse when I'm lacking sleep, though, so do make sure you're doing all the usual stuff like getting enough sleep, eating sensibly, regular exercise and so on.

(i.e. not at all like me...)

Thanks for that. I will google and when i can get paid i may try it and see how i get on!!

er..regular excercise mmmm...could be better! Eating sensibly well yeh..apart from all the sweet things...and sleep...i usually survive on 6hrs...so i guess some changes are in order!!!

To be fair, I do do regular exercise. I should do it more than regularly once a week...

I'm in my late thirties and quite like having spots, as it makes me feel youthful :D

I've read people on here say that the oil cleansing method helps with spots ... don't have the link to hand but you could search for it, or search on Google instead as there are a few websites about it.

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 17:18

Really...?? you like having spots?? Do you want mine lol???
I hate having spots. I had a blissful youth, beautiful skin, never any acne, until i had my children at 19 and it all changed for me. Made my hormones go topsy turvy and have suffered from crops of spots since my 20's and beyond. Im tired of it!!

..oh and i thought it was all settled now when i turned 40 and it was up until last week when, at the ripe old age of 46..here we go again!!!!!!!

I've heard that sometimes going on the pill can help with this sort of hormonal stuff. Having said that, I was recently told (by someone with a degree of insight into this sort of thing) that the trend of GPs putting teenaged girls on the pill to cure their acne was really an underhand way of getting them onto contraception in an effort to avoid unwanted pregnancy Shock

Sounds depressing but could be hormonal/onset of menopause. Exercise might make you fitter, feel better, but if you're getting moody too, HRT could be the answer Smile

Well i am on citalopram after being in an extremely stressful situation at my work. I am not at that place of work now but still take the tablets to cope with some anxiety issues. I wondered if the tablets could have made my periods so erratic. Its only since i have been on them that they seem to come and go..or maybe it is just my age and i am going through the peri menopause. Im not that bothered about going through it. Actually i will be glad to get rid of my periods! Atm, i dont really get a low mood really...the tablets de-sensitize you, which is good!!!
