Clothing for a very tall, slim 11 year old?

DD is 11 and 5'5". She is too tall for for several brands of children's clothes (e.g. she has outgrown Zara's top children's size of age 13-14). Recently, I have found clothes for her at Jonnie B (Boden), but the clothes in the autumn catalogue don't appeal (too many flowers, horses and Union Jacks!). She is also not much into teenage fashion yet. Any suggestions, please?

Sounds like me at that age. Back in those days Zara adult xs was the only thing that fit. Their xS was v small but not available all the time

my dd is the same, and only 10.

I find that some adult size 6 fit her really nicely, so great for things like jumpers and stuff.

bought some nice plain long sleeve tshirty tops in asda yesterday.

Have had some joy in Peacocks too over the summer after sifting through the racks of lacy and frilly bits!

I went to H and M mainly. Nightmare getting jeans long enough.

In the past we've done a fair bit of loose shirts (size 6) with H&M strappy T-shirts underneath (get the ones with adjustable straps as otherwise they'll be too long in the top part of the chest). Actually strappy vests under just about anything in a size 6/XS. Adult 6s are still cut for curves, and when you don't have any yet, it's all a bit low cut, so the T-shirt underneath with the straps tightened up fills the gap as it were.

I don't like the New Look 9-15 personally, it's generally a bit "teenager-ey trying to look more grown up than they actually are" - we've had better luck in the adult ranges. It's a nightmare age though, I'm glad we're almost past it (DD3 is 12 but filling out a bit).

H&M are pretty good for jeans as they do all sorts of size combinations - the super skinny have worked for my DDs in their tall and thin stages, plus they're not too low cut at the waist.

Have you tried Gap? Was in there today and all of their children's clothes appear to be long and thin...

H and m teenage range start at a 6 I think and the " sporty " stuff in their kids range ( jersey basics ) is quite big

With both of these you need to go at a quiet time , try on everything that might be a possibility and allow twice as long as any reasonable person might need. Be prepared to make lots of trips to and from the fitting room .

Both shops have decent basic stuff that would suit an 11 year old - legging, jeggimgs, skinny jeans, converse a like shoes, ugg like boots , zip up tops, t shirts, denim shorts and skirts.

I recently got jeans to fit skinny boy in next -but had to try on 13 prs in store and order another two to get one that fitted. Sigh

Thankfully skinny girl is filing out now as she's 13.

School uniform -now that's a whole other story .......

My DD is 11 and 5'4. We're in the US (Brits) and have lost track which stores have opened there. We shop in Aeropostle for her. She's a US 00

DS is 6ft at 13. He wears 30 inch waist, 34 inch leg trousers. I order them from Next. 30/34 are hard to find in shops! I am hoping he fills out a bit soon...

Hope you are not too traumatised by the experience of clothes shopping with a Child on busy Saturday

We had a lovely time together, thanks. We found some pyjamas (aged 13-14) in M&S. The aged 13-14 cords DD tried on were an odd shape, though - the right length for her but with far too much room in the front, so that she would have to walk around with her hands in her pockets to hold them up (her suggestion). We decided to try Zara again before going to H&M and found that, though the 13-14 dress we bought there a few months ago is now too short, their 13-14 leggings and tops fit well, so we kitted her out there. She is delighted with an assortment of leggings, jeans, tops, a smart cardigan and a fluffy gilet that she appears to have been welded into ever since. We even managed to fit in a visit to Claire's Accessories, where she bought an owl necklace (already broken) and a fluffy cover for her recently bought, first ever phone. It feels as though we have started on the foothills of adolescence today ...
