birdsnest at the back of her pretty sweet head

Sorry if this is not the right place for this post - I am new to mumsnet. My 2 yr old daughter's hair is curly and soft in the front, and dry, frizzy, and tangly in the back. Does anyone have any suggestions for hair products? I have tried Neil's Yard rose shampoo and that left her hair a bit softer at the back for about a day (!), but it also loosened and we lost the rest of her curls, and overall her hair looked a bit dull. Does anyone else have experience of this? We have very hard water where we live. Not sure if that's relevant!

My DD had a birdnest on the back of her head at the same age.

The hairdresser helped me to banish it with the help of:

  • tangle teezer hairbrush
  • a good detangler spray (we used very pricey Original Sprout Miracle Detangler but it was worth it)
  • chopped her hair into a very cute graduated bob, keeping it short at the back, longer at the front, until she was through the birdnest phase around 4yo. Regular haircuts were needed to maintain it.

It worked!

A teenie tiny bit of coconut oil will help smooth it out and also accentuate curls.

After much trial and error with DDs long wavy hair we've found our dream combination of L'oreal Ever-riche shampoo and conditioner, Herbal Essensces Bee Strong Strength spray as a detangler and a Tangle Angel for brushing. Also if going swimming or on hols I use Cyclax Spf/anti chlorine cream available from Amazon, it's awesome!

This is fantastic thank you. The L'oreal ever-riche shampoo and conditioner are amazing and haven't flattened my Dd's curls. I will try the rest soon too. Thanks so much
