how matched should accessories be for a formal outfit?

assuming you're wearing a wrap, carrying a bag, and got shoes on - what should match? assume, for argument's sake, that your outfit has two colours.

cod I thought you cared about this stuff. Fiofio - on such occassions a handbag is not a wallet - it's a make-up bag.

either grey bag, or black suede/velvet which goes with everything.

ScummyMummy · 19/09/2006 18:41

Everything matching can look a bit naff/boring, imo. Maybe a bright coloured obviously contrasting bag?

CarolinaMoon · 19/09/2006 19:21

agree with the non-matching thing - e.g. a cranberry-coloured bag.

Peridot30 · 19/09/2006 19:37

i usually match bag and shoes. Keeping them the same colour.

mazzystar · 19/09/2006 19:40

just assuming the teal/grey scenario (which sounds rather fab by the way is there a picture?). red, pink, navy or a different shade of teal, maybe brighter.

deffo not black.

Peridot30 · 19/09/2006 19:49

grey shoes mean grey bag.IMO other colours would look crap!! Have you got a party/wedding to go to?

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 19/09/2006 19:52

I wondered about pink or red. But I've gone and got the grey shoes - which I love. And I've got the wrap - it's brighter than the teal on the outfit - but goes very well. I kind of feel that I need the bag to match at least one or the other or it starts looking a bit cobbled together. I might get a bright pink necklace.

problem is peridot - can't find a matching grey bag. ludicrous as it sounds - as several shop assistants assured me it was the colour of the season I could not find a grey suede handbag. Could find grey leather but that's a bit of a half-arsed attempt at matching imo. bum.

plenty of teal around, have you tried topshop?

or how about a silvery fabric clutch type thing.

i think unmatched (but co-ordinated) shoes/bag looks younger and funkier, personally. and if it involves a meal no-one can see shoes and bag together anyhoo.

is it a wedding?

FifteenBadgersOnADeadMansChest · 19/09/2006 21:45

had a moment of clarity in the car on the way home - think you need a pewter or silver metallic bag, perhaps like this , or loads in Accessorize

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 20/09/2006 08:49

yeah - saw tonnes of pewter and I even bought a pair of pewter shoes but they just weren't quite right - esp next to the grey ones which are perfect - so they're going back to shop. yes it's a wedding and I do love the chance to dress up
