blazer that doesn't look like part of a suit...

I have decided I desperately need a blazer now that the weather is getting a bit chilly. I already have two black ones but don't like either of them as they look like the top half of a business suit and I want something that looks less office-y.

It needs to be a dark neutral - black or grey (possibly navy) but I'm thinking what would make it look less suit-like is a bit of texture in the fabric, maybe a flecked design (although not stripes). Needs to be a bum-covering length.

Can't find one anywhere. By far the best I've seen was this from River Island - perfect shape, good colour/fabric (bit of texture, sort of flecked) but the quality is awful - it's unlined and looks really limp even when brand new on the hanger so I imagine it would look like a boiled rag after two wears.

Don't want to spend hundreds but could go up to £80/£90 for the right one. Does anyone have any inspired ideas?

Zara are good for this sort of thing. Like this

Beautydiva · 12/09/2014 18:45

Just wondering did you buy river island one ?

EvilTwins · 12/09/2014 18:49

I've got one from Whistles and one from Pepperberry. They're both lovely.

Beautydiva · 12/09/2014 19:09

EvilTwins which whistle one have you got ?

EvilTwins · 12/09/2014 22:15

This one but in navy.

Beautydiva · 12/09/2014 22:39

Wow I was looking at the similar one in sale . I have never bought anything from whistles , would you recommend this blazer ?

EvilTwins · 12/09/2014 22:40

Yes, it's really comfy and is machine washable Grin My first Whistles purchase too.

Beautydiva · 12/09/2014 23:23

Great Grin But the colour on sale is Bright blue but I would prefer black/grey but they are full price Hmm.

Hi, I completely forgot to come back to my own thread, how rude of me Blush. I'm afraid I'm still on the hunt or the perfect non-office-y blazer. The River Island one just didn't look good enough quality, although everything about it otherwise was perfect. Saw a nice one in Next but when I tried it on it looked like a cardigan. The Whistles ones look lovely but I think I want something with a bit more of a texture (not quite a pattern but something more tweedy, kind of).

At this rate it will soon be winter and I'l be wearing coats and parkas anyway ...

Good thread. I need a jacket. I liked the joules one but I'm looking for something to go over a dress or skirt rather than jeans or trousers.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 13/09/2014 09:07

What about this one. Not bum covering but mid-bum which can be flattering.

Beautydiva · 23/09/2014 16:33

Are whistles blazers bum covering ?

Beautydiva · 23/09/2014 18:16

EvilTwins - thanks for sharing whistles experience , I have just ordered two , bright blue and black cotton in sales and got extra 25% on top of that Grin .

lurkingfromhome · 23/09/2014 18:25

I like the M&S one, Bigger. But of course it is sold out in every size except an 8. Aargh.

The Ness ones just aren't quite right and I really can't stretch to the Joules prices (well if it was the most perfect jacket in the world I perhaps would, but there are a couple of things I don't quite like about it). So sorry, Waswondering, you're being really helpful and I am just the most difficult customer ever.
