Does anyone else have to 'break in' a new bra?

I've just been fitted for a new bra, and while it felt great in the shop, it's been a bit uncomfy to wear round the front where the wiring meets the breast-bone. It feels perfect everywhere else. Of course, I've been wearing it now, so doubt I can take it back, but should I persevere? Hoping it might slacken a bit with washing perhaps?

Do you find you need to break in a new bra like you would a pair of new shoes?

Yes, I find new bras a bit tight for the first couple of wears.

I fold up a wad of tissue and wear it underneath the wires at the breastbone for the first few wears. Otherwise I get very sore!

I wear it looser than usual for the first few wears and, if it's staying uncomfortable, manually adjust the underwires a little, so they don't dig in.

yes me. I've just had new ones (properly fitted) and for me it's the side seams that dig in for the first couple of wears. They always loosen after a couple of washes though.

I soak new ones on a bowl with warm water and fabric conditioner for a couple of hours, usually softens them up.

Yes, me!!! The band around my torso digs in to begin with but ive washed it now and its far comfier. Was thinking about getting a couple of bra expander things so that i can wear them a bit looser.

I immediately hand wash my new bra and strap it round a chair or towel rail to dry.

Then I wear the bra and adjust my straps so that I can just pull them up to the bottom of my ears.

Hopefully, if the basic fitting is correct, I can then just get four fingers at right angles under my back band on the loosest hook setting. Basically, with a new bra, your band and straps should be very snug.

If the band is too loose, you could use a tighter hook setting, but basically you need a smaller bra size.

If the band is too tight, you could try a bra extender, but I have found that that they set the base of the straps too wide, so they can slip off your shoulders.

Definitely I have bought a bra that felt good when it was fitted in the shop but then after wearing it the first day I've thought oh shit I bought the wrong size but after a couple of washes and wears it's fine.

I find that if a bra feels nice and comfortable on the first few wears it will end up being too big

I had one bra from bravissimo which seemed fine in the shop but, after wearing it for a couple of days, left me with bruises on the breastbone and grazes under my arms. I persevered as I didn't think I'd be able to get my money back but, after wearing it a couple of times a week for a month or so but the problem continuing, took it back & they gave me a full refund and then fitted me for a different style where the wires sat differently.
I am wearing a new M&S bra today, have it on the loosest setting when I know that, in a couple of weeks, it will be onto the tightest one but am still really looking forward to going to bed in a few minutes & taking it off.

If it's brusing or grazing it's too tight, but it's pretty normal for a new bra to be a bit nippy or diggy for the first couple of wears.

For me, it's the style/brand question. Panache wires are a bit narrow and high for me, so those bras need to be worn in, but I don't have the same problem with Freya.

I find panache in general have firmer wires than Freya. They're a better shape for me overall but the wires are pretty solid so need a bit of wear. Freya don't suit my shape as well, but they're generally softer and comfier.
