Should I go back to the hairdressers?

I had my hair dyed at my hairdressers (who I have been going to for a couple of years and generally like) about 5 weeks ago.
This is the first time I have had it dyed professionally, normally do it myself over the bath!
After a couple of weeks I noticed it had really started to fade and it is now a completely different colour and although not horrible not one I would have chosen.
Is it normal for a colour to fade so dramatically and should I go back to the hairdressers? I am disappointed that when I spent significantly more money on colour than I usually do the results don't last as long.
What do others think??

How many weeks? Was it a semi permanent? All over colour or hilights? How often do you wash it? If you were light and you had gone darker it may lighten up quicker than normal, if you are not happy go back. I would rather have a client come back to me in this case, it's easy just to reapply if it's an all over colour.

Is it red?

It has been 5 weeks since it was coloured and should have been permanent - to be honest it faded so quickly I wondered whether they had used semi permanent by mistake!!

I do normally dye my hair darker, and it lasts much longer. It was an all over colour and I wash it every day (just as when I do it myself). I think I might go back just for a chat, I just wasn't sure whether I was expecting too much!

It was brown with undertones of purple / grape but now looks redish.

Sometimes when you colour your hair a lot it can become quite porous so it basically soaks it up then "spits" it back out again quite quickly! The more vibrant the colour the quicker it fades. I would go back sooner rather than later or at least ring before you end up in that weird too long territory of it being due again anyway.
