If you owned (and therefore liked!) this dress where would you wear it?

I have just got this -

Peacock maxi

I love it but I have form for buying gorgeous dresses that don't necessarily get worn lots! I have a few things coming up - but am interested in how versatile it could be ( or not!)

I know maxis divide opinion on here. I have a couple am not thin ( or young!) but am pear shaped so this style kind of suits me I think!

Garden party
Wedding
Cruise (not me, but I can imagine it looking appropriate on a cruise ship)
Smart casual dinner

RJnomore · 13/08/2014 21:30

I like it.

It's quite versatile. I don't think it's dressy enough for a wedding though.

I'd wear it with flat strappy sandals and maybe some sort of white shrug if it was a bit chilly.

Elliptic5 · 13/08/2014 21:35

I think it's lovely, I would try and dress it down so I could wear it during the day.

SarcyMare · 13/08/2014 21:38

I wear maxi dresses everywhere, except dog walking.
All day, all night

frames · 13/08/2014 21:39

Don't wear maxi dresses, but this is nice, and OK for occasion wear imo

Liveinthepresent · 13/08/2014 21:49

thanks for the replies.
it is gorgeous and i really really don't want to send it back!
But I don't get out much these days (DCs are 3 and 1) - though i do have a special 'garden party' that i would wear it for.
I think my only reservation is that it is 'dressier' (i sound like my Mum now) in the flesh than I had hoped. It is quite chiffony also very much floor length so i think it is party wear - had hoped it could be dressed down but am not convinced.

EatShit wish I could carry that off. Grin

Sarcy and Elliptic any further wisdom on 'dressing down' most welcome!

Dress down with a denim jacket

Jumper on top with boots topped off with some attitude

Madaboutthrows · 13/08/2014 21:53

On top of thin long sleeved top for colder months

Mrsgrumble · 13/08/2014 21:54

If you love it, keep it.

I agree it could be dressed down with a cropped denim jacket.

Keep it to good summer wear

Madaboutthrows · 13/08/2014 21:59

Link to a blog showing how you could wear it hvabeautyandstyle.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/winter-maxi-dress.html

Liveinthepresent · 13/08/2014 22:04

Have sent you some links in a pm Live

SarcyMare · 13/08/2014 22:36

Dress down, what is that?
Keep your hair simple, no accessories, simple high heels (to stop the hem getting dirty)

Namechangedforthisohyesidid · 13/08/2014 22:37

It's gorgeous! Agree easy to dress down, just wear Havanas and some plain jewellery

TheFirmament · 13/08/2014 22:40

Yes daytime, dress down with a cardie and birkenstocks or converse, school run, shops. BBQs, garden parties, holidays, day out sightseeing.

It doesn't look very eveningy to me but would be OK for a wedding I think.

Liveinthepresent · 13/08/2014 22:53

thanks all - still need to convince myself of daytime/ causal use but i think i will be happy to wear it whenever I get chance and will be hoping the summer doesn't fade too fast!

I don't actually have any weddings to go to in the foreseeable (I am old!!) so no dilemma there!

To extend the season i wear a long length cami underneath and a simple waterfall cardigan.

Can be worn until october that way to get your moneys worth

polyhymnia · 13/08/2014 23:18

I really like it but think wearing something long, spaghetti strapped and chiffony on the school run would be a bit incongruous personally.

WildBillfemale · 14/08/2014 07:43

It's silk........I would wear it to dinner on holiday in the summer or to a beach wedding
