Fashion dilemma - do I now need to throw out all my bootcut/wideleg trousers and jeans?

Or are they going to come back into fashion as soon as I do?

They all seem very frumpy and dated right now but will this always be the case?

I've seen people wearing slim bootcuts with heels and they don't look frumpy..

LuckySaint · 13/08/2014 17:25

I've kept mine.
I've been wearing an old Gap pair this summer, rolled up into boyfriend style.
They don't look much different to my £££ J brand boyfriends.

You might like them again in the winter with ankle boots?
It wouldn't even occur to me to throw something out because it was out of style. I just wear what I can squeeze my fat ass into like Wink
I really do aim to have the confidence to be less influenced by what everyone else is wearing and genuinely wear what suits me and sets me apart from the crowd.

I'm like you OP, I think they look frumpy at the moment, but that's what fashion does. I wouldn't throw them away though, they'll probably look very different to you when they're more back in fashion again. I'm not the ideal shape for skinny jeans but I look ok in them and for me, a lot better than bootcut.

The best fashion advice is to wear clothes that suit your body shape, not what is necessarily high fashion. That way you will look good! E.g. I have big thighs, I have to wear wide leg trousers to flatter my figure, I could never wear skinny jeans or leggings. Who cares if I look decent that they are not the height of fashion for size 6 18 year olds!

SarcyMare · 13/08/2014 21:35

Trinity has it perfect, if it suits you it will look a lot better than fashion that makes you uncomfortable or just doesn't suit you.

tethersend · 13/08/2014 23:04

They're going to be everywhere soon, mark my words.

I agree that wearing something that really doesn't suit you isn't the best idea. And that following fashion without any consideration for size and shape also isn't the best idea. But I think it's massively different with jeans. They are such a staple, that buying the style that's fashionable, isn't being a fashion victim at all. Pretty much (with exceptions of course) everyone has worn skinny or slim jeans for a few years now, it's been hard to find anything else in the shops. Inevitably then, bootleg jeans have looked dated and frumpy in a lot of cases. Skinny jeans aren't high fashion, they're just the norm. When boot cuts come back, which no doubt they will, we'll probably look at skinnies and think they look dated and awful. That's what fashion does. My point is just this though, that ditching bootcut for skinny isn't being a fashion victim IMO.

Wear what suits you when it comes to jeans. One area where it's probably best not to follow fashion blindly.

We've all seen horrible visions in skinnies when really they should have stuck to a style that suits them. Gok wan has a lot to answer for telling people anyone can wear skinnies.
