vitalumiere has wrecked my skin

I've been suffering all sorts of rashes and just blotchy skin generally and have managed to pin it down to the foundation I've been using - I have quite sensitive skin generally. Which is sad as I love it and the effect (but skin now looks awful underneath).

So looking for a new foundation to try which won't make my skin flare up. Any recommendations?

i like bourjois perfect matt or whatever it's called, it's nice! my skin suffers when i use some things too

mrsflowerpot · 18/09/2006 13:22

Oh no! Poor you.

My sister has v sensitive skin and she uses Clinique's Almost Make-Up with no problem - I've used it too and it gives nice sheer coverage, doesn't make you shiny at all.

I had the vitalumiere, but managed to lose it (how ?!). I bought the Maybelline matte mousse stuff (not prepared to pay £28 only to lose it again) and I'm really pleased with it, it's very light and good for my prima-donnaish skin, not to mention being a heck of a lot cheaper than Chanel!

(sorry, DD mucking about with keyboard)

I think foundation can be a bit of a vicious circle. You use it to cover up a poor complexion but its the foundation can be making your skin upset.
If you use foundation its vital that you use a really good cleanser to remove every scrap. To be honest a really good skincare regime would make your skin look better than any foundation can. I think foundation is a bit of an old lady look and its younger and more modern to go all out for good skin and just use a bit of concelaer where necessary.
Personally I think all chanel makeup it overrated. It all fells cheap to me. Clinique makeup is better quality ,for me anyway, but I wouldnt touch their skincare.Way too harsh.

dermalogica is very nice and good for sensative skins. Well mine anyway!

I couldn't use that highly rated Clinique day cream for a similar reason puddle, it made me all blotchy.
MI and I both like the Boots Number 7 lightweight foundation - can't remember what it's called, sorry but it's the one that comes in a tube, light, medium, dark, and is supposed to tone exactly with your own skin colour within those bands. Works a treat for me and the last time I saw MI she didn't look too bad either

CountessDracula · 19/09/2006 11:13

vitalumiere made my face glow bright red

horrid stuff

I sent mine to someone else on mn can't remember who now

Issymum · 19/09/2006 11:16

Marina, I use it too. I can't remember what it's called exactly but it has the word 'Intelligent' somewhere in the name. Effective, light and not unreasonably priced.

bakedpotato · 19/09/2006 11:21

I lurrve Revlon Skinlights Face Illuminator.
It's very light, sheer, glowy, it brightens rather than covers stuff up. And it's cheap.

puddle · 19/09/2006 11:25

ooh thanks everyone. Will have a look at the clinique stuff I think. I tried the Boots one but somehow it thought my face was Dale Winton orange and adapted itself to that colour.

Lorina I am religious about taking it off! Am a Liz`Earle girl.

If anyone wants my vitalumiere they can have it.

The good news is I thought it was my lancome eye stuff that I was allergic to. Very happy it's not!

Marina using clinique turnaround cream was what made my skin become really sensitive in the first place. I never had any problems until I used that - it's never been the same since.

Laura Mercier oil-free is the only one for me!

puddle · 19/09/2006 11:33

I have always wanted to have a look at the Laura mercier stuff but never been anywhere that stocks it.

i haven't used this foundation but it sounds god awful... is it by chanel? - i think dior make a superb foundation if you want to pay the money, the finish is incredible, i use this for evenings out and special occasions. every day for work, meeting etc I have used revlon colourstay for years..... but i think looking after the skin prior to foundation is also a major key. a good cleanser, toner and moisturiser and eye cream to start, then all the "go away wrinkles" creams etc

puddle · 19/09/2006 11:54

Yes it is chanel. I like it. But I can't use it.

Marina · 19/09/2006 12:25

LOL at Dale Winton.
I achieved the just-dug-up effect using the so-called replacement (Vinefit?) to my long-term fave Bienfait du Matin, and that's when I switched from Lancome after nearly 15 years using their tinted moisturiser.
Luckily I did not suffer the same miserable after-effects of using Turnaround, puddle

lorina · 19/09/2006 13:52

Oh excellent ,liz earle is a fab cleanser!

Clinique will give you samples of foundation if you ask them . I dont use foundation myself but I use clinique powder which is so much finer and smoother than the chanel one

farraday · 21/09/2006 18:54

crunchie · 21/09/2006 23:55
