Can anyone help me with a winter coat for DD?

I'm not too picky, really....
It has to be waterproof as we walk to school, rain or shine.
It also has to be warm (ditto).
I would like it not to be long, as it will be her everything coat, so needs to be suitable for climbing the spider web in the park etc.
I really don't want it to be pink - for one thing our school uniform is red, for another I am constantly battling against a tide of pink...

Anyone seen anything? I have had a skeg in M&S, BhS, Peacocks, Asda, Mackays - nothing (literally nothing in Marks). Am I too early for winter coats? surely not. I actually would put her in DS1's old navy coat but the zip keeps sticking.

I like the Boden light-blue padded waterproof jacket if that's any help, but £44 is maybe more than I want to pay (even with the lovely MN discount..)
Anyone got any fab suggestions???

Are you planning to buy a new one? I have dd's from last year. It's just from Woolies (age 5-6 generously sized)), but is fairly warm and would keep her dry in rain I think, although I don't know if it's totally waterproof per se, but it would take a very heavy shower over a good while to become wet right through. It's silver with a faux fur trim hood and washes very well..
I was going to put it on the 'for sale' boards as it's still in very good condition.

I could try to find a pic for you.

Or if you're after a new one, I bought dd's new one in Clarks factory shop. Do you live anywhere near any outlet centre? It was £24, so not too bad and it is definitely waterproof.

Little Trekkers have quite a big selection of waterproof for resonable prices. They're usually quite good on speedy delivery too.

wait for the £10 off £30 spend at Boden?

cheeseandonion · 18/09/2006 12:01

If the zip is sticking have you tried going up and down it with a pencil lead? you just draw up it as though you are colouring it in. Don't really know how it works...it just does! Might tide you over until you se something you love.

alexsmum · 18/09/2006 12:21

or rub the zip with candle wax.works everytime.

save you buying a new coat!

Clary · 19/09/2006 11:21

Sorry girls, forgot about this and just looking at it now. Thanks for all posts.

Aero, thanks for the offer but I want something a bit more downbeat tho yr silver coat sounds lovely....

Have looked at Vertbaudet and found a nice one actually, £28 tho, how much is postage? Millets worth a gleg in town. Trouble is I really need her to be able to try it on as she is tall and skinny so sizing can be tricky....
Can't actually recal what is wrong with the zip (just that it is) but will try pencil trick....

Not sure on Vertbaudet postage - it was my first order, so I got money off and free p&p - might be worth starting a thread asking about money off codes for Vertbaudet.

Clary · 19/09/2006 12:43

ooh yes, money off now yr're talking!

La redoute also do £10 off the first order with free p&p. Offer code is 0221 if that's helpful.

JackieNo · 19/09/2006 14:00

Think that was the offer I had, but I'm at work atm so couldn't check. Brought it down to a more manageable price.

Ds1 had a blue one like that from Tchibo last year. I looked this year and there were none to be had - must've looked too early. Highly recommend their coats - both warm and waterproof and great value.
