City trip abroad - what to wear?

I'm going to Berlin for 5 days in 2 weeks time, presuming it will be quite warm. What would you wear?

I'm 49, 5 feet 7, size 14, bra size measured a while ago as 34FF (still wearing bras in that size, but they feel tight), waist 35.5 and bum 41 inches. I can't wear just black, although black and white patterned is ok. I'm dark haired, brown eyes, hair quite long. I'll probably be wearing black converse to walk in most of the time and intend to do lots of walking and jumping on and off the underground!

I'm never stylish, so not worried about that, just something that will be comfortable and easy to wear and suit me. A lot of my summer clothes are too tight Blush, I can't afford much really. Have been looking on Ebay, but my birthday is coming up, so think I might treat myself to one really nice thing (preferably under £40 though).

Grateful for any suggestions - links if possible Smile

Oh, and not a maxi dress, or I'll trip up!

I'm a dresses person -- what do you like to wear.

Since you know you are wearing converse -- maybe some shorts?

Imliketotallyummm · 06/08/2014 22:34

Definitely not shorts! I have fat calves.Prefer dresses too.

If you wear a dress for sightseeing, what sort of footwear do you wear with it?

OP posts:

I prefer calf length dresses, easy to wear, quite floaty but not too fussy, and I can't find anything that I like.

I love birkies - most comfortable shoes ever. And you'll blend right in in Berlin Grin

I'm in Berlin Smile

It has been really hot and humid lately and nothing has air con so definitely bring some summer clothes (although the nights have been cooling off so bring something a bit warmer just in case)

The great thing about Berlin is you can wear anything and no one cares, if you want to wear a dress and converse go for it. Comfy sandals might be better though, with the heat.

You might actually enjoy doing some shopping here -- you can get really cheap and nice secondhand dresses at places like Humana:

www.humana-second-hand.de/mode/shops.html

The Friedrichshain shop is the biggest in Europe apparently, you could pop in there (it's in the middle of the old Stalinist boulevard where they used to have the may day parades) and then have a wander around Friedrichshain.

(btw for hopping around, suggest getting a week's travel card (the tube is great but expensive) and also check out bus routes 100 and 200, these are known as the tourist buses because they go past so many major sites -- they are double decker so you can try to get on first and sit up top)

Have fun!! Berlin is great Smile

:)
Have you looked in gap for calf-length dresses? They had loads of jersey ones jn the sale. Some with some ruching on the side that looked quite flattering.

Imliketotallyummm · 07/08/2014 09:35

dreaming, thanks for the tips Smile Last time I went was winter, have only been once in summer and that was a long time ago.

Great tip about the shop., thanks. We'll be based at my daughter's in Schöneberg (I think), so quite central. I'll look at the weekly ticket, but my daughter generally walks everywhere Shock

Not sure if it's Schöneberg or Schönfeld where she lives- the one that isn't where the airport is!

Yes I'd love to find a dress like that, but they are all very figure hugging, well, the ones I've seen.

I'll search for pashmina, thanks Smile

Have a good trip.

I wear sandals with my dresses.

Your converse & birkies will be fine.

Imliketotallyummm · 07/08/2014 18:19

Thanks. Smile I think so too. Hope it doesn't rain, I can't fit in more shoes- just taking hand luggage.

Gap dress arrived and is great, but what bra do I wear under racer back?

OP posts:
RevealTheHiddenBeach · 08/08/2014 14:58

Can you convert your bra so that your straps go from this I I to this >< ? either with a clip thing or some have hooks in already

Imliketotallyummm · 08/08/2014 15:16

Thanks- ordered a clip thing online that does that. I have a strapless one, but it's a bit tight Blush
