Dear women of all shapes, sizes and ages everywhere,

Skater skirts look hideous on everybody. For the love of god, please stop.

Yours gratefully

Pirate

I think this person is a troll. Said to annoy. I cant see any other reason for it. Its not constructive and quite frankly its not true. It depends upon the cut, fall of material and each persons shape.

ShyGirlie · 06/08/2014 18:02

Horrible thread. I can't stand judgemental people. What is even the point of starting a thread like this? Most people come on here to ask for suggestions or advice, not to "ban" certain items of clothing.

I for one own many skater skirts and dresses, and find them to be flattering. I will continue to wear what I want. If anyone doesn't like it, that's fine - they can simply chose not to look at me!

Yy to Appleby.

ShyGirlie · 06/08/2014 18:05

And on that note, morphine you look fab! In fact, where did you get your outfit?!?

MollySolverson · 06/08/2014 18:06

And to actually look at a photo of someone and be disparaging about it, very rude and unkind.

MollySolverson · 06/08/2014 18:07

Yes, morphine, you do! And your waist looks teeny tiny!

Logarhythm · 06/08/2014 18:10

Morphine you do not look fat! Skater skirts do not suit everyone - but Morphine you can certainly wear them!

burnishedsilver · 06/08/2014 19:35

I love them on the hanger but I look awful in them. They emphasise all my worst bits.

EmmanuelWoganberry · 06/08/2014 19:52

Well I think they look great on everyone, better than the standard skinny jeans that so many people are walking around in in this heat

Bunbaker · 06/08/2014 19:58

I have a knee length skater dress and it suits my pear shape beautifully. I always get compliments when I wear it.

I am 55.

Sicaq · 06/08/2014 20:27

I like them. But Imam very short and they are one of the few skirt shapes that doesn't swamp my lower half.

temporaryusername · 06/08/2014 21:01

Morphine you look really fabulous in those and very slim. Proof they can look good as far as I'm concerned. If you're overweight I think I'd better call myself a bariatric ambulance.

MotherOfFerals · 06/08/2014 21:27

I bought a skater skirted dress ages ago but it made me feel like Upsy Daisy.

AmberNectarine · 06/08/2014 21:29

Not tried a skater skirt but the dresses do suit me. Small waist, flattish stomach, big old arse.

ThisBitchIsResting · 06/08/2014 23:49

Grin at Upsy Daisy!

They look awful on me, I feel like I'm dressing up as a little girl. I'm 8/10 pear, medium height. Much prefer a short A-line shift type thing, Goat / Victoria Beckham style dress. Anything with a defined waist just doesn't work on me, I look simultaneously little girly and matronly.

It seems to me that most skater skirts / dresses I see are ponte / cheap polyester or poly chiffon jobs, with poorly finished hems. Which will always look cheap. The sort of thing that looks great when you're 15.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/08/2014 04:02

No way does Morphine look overweight in that skirt. It looks great!

I wouldn't wear one (too tall, wrong shape, not my style), but why shouldn't other people wear them if they feel good? Jeez.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 07/08/2014 04:28

I would look crap in most of them (but Bun, where did you get yours)
Morphine looks lovely, my dd rocks them beautifully.
But OP your post was horribly rude.
Who died and made you queen of everything?

Bunbaker · 07/08/2014 06:13

This is my dress. It was recommended to me on MN when I was having a fruitless search for dresses earlier on this year.

Even my very critical 14 year old DD says it looks nice on me. She said it looked better on me than the model. I am flatter of chest than the model, but the cut of the dress adds a few curves.

Logarhythm · 07/08/2014 06:34

When the whole skater dress craze started it was suggested that they would be perfect for an hourglass, so I tried a few on - quite a few, nope they didn't, maybe it's my height - too tall....actually I think hourglasses -well, me anyway - don't suit belts around jackets as Gok suggests or skater dresses. IMO the waists don't look small as much as they make the hips and bust look massive, in a frumpy way.

Lagoonablue · 07/08/2014 06:40

Ok on the right shape. I am 5 foot 9 so too tall. Look like an overgrown school girl in them.

Skirts are tricky. I quite like an a line shape or something on the bias. Probably not fashionable but suits me. I think people should wear what they like but some people could do with a little advice! Some women will wear the latest style regardless of whether it suits them or not.

WilburIsSomePig · 07/08/2014 08:17

They emphasise one's tummy (yes, even yours, Morphine).

Who the fuck do you think you are Pirate. And tummy? Are you 4?

I would never wear a skater dress/skirt as I would look ridiculous in one, Morphine looks great in hers IMO so I suspect you may be a little jealous (I would love her figure). However, you are not the style police so grow up and stop being such a cow.

Cat2014 · 09/08/2014 09:17

Morphine they look great on you.

MorphineDreams · 09/08/2014 11:03

Oh wow thanks for all the support everyone! When I post photos I'm fully aware I might get bad comments especially on a thread so negative to begin with so it's nice to see lovely comments.

Deluge · 09/08/2014 11:56

They're cute, but too short and girly for me (late 30s and 5'11...I would look pathetic).

PinkSquash · 09/08/2014 21:49

Morphine, you have great legs btw and the skater skirts really suit you Smile

MegMogandOwlToo · 09/08/2014 22:06

What a horrible thread!

Skater skirts and dresses suit many people, morphine included.
