Where can I buy a plain black pencil skirt

That doesn't cost the earth?

I have a couple of old favourites from Zara but they're getting tatty and Zara doesn't seem to currently have anything similar.

I've looked at Hobbs (too expensive at £100!), M&S (too long and mumsy).

Any other suggestions? It's for work so think stylish and smart rather than sexy.

J Crew No 2 pencil skirt (some colours reduced to £66) or Gap pencil skirt (£30)

Cheesymonster · 04/08/2014 18:03

I recently got one from matalan!

Nonemoreblack · 04/08/2014 18:21

Got one a couple of weeks ago in the Mint Velvet sale, reduced to £30, it's lovely..

H&M for just plain pencil skirt.

LaCerbiatta · 04/08/2014 20:01

Also, I tried this on today and it's great: www.marksandspencer.com/panelled-knee-length-pencil-skirt/p/p22293717#product-info

My friend got one the other day from the Wallis section in BHS, looks very smart with lovely stitching detail at the seams; I don't think she paid more than around £20 for it.

Primark £5 cotton jersey mix!

Ifyoubuildit · 04/08/2014 22:27

Oh that M&S one looks so much better than the one I ordered from them, which was really frumpy. Unfortunately it's sold out in my size Hmm

I've ordered the banana republic one, do you know if their sizes are the same as gap (as I know they own them) i.e. ridiculous?

Pretty much. I'd go at least one size down for skirts.

lazysummer · 05/08/2014 09:18

Belinda, the J Crew skirt looks lovely. Is their sizing accurate?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 05/08/2014 09:43

No, it's not. I'm a size 10 and at J Crew, I'm size 0. Ridiculous. Many places I am an 8, but in my older clothes, I am a size 10 (they aren't big on me, either). Vanity sizing, to varying degrees, seems to be used in most brands.

I know it seems odd but seek out a school outfitters and get the trutex one. My daughter's is gorgeous; such a flattering cut. Lovely fabric, perfect sizing, available in different lengths. washes well.

Longdistance · 05/08/2014 09:56

I got the Matalan one, and its brilliant. I'm 5'19" and it's long enough for me. It can be moved up and down on your waste.

I feel quite sexy in this skirt. Think it's been mentioned on MN before.

lazysummer · 05/08/2014 10:09

Thanks. I am tempted! Pencil skirts are great for work. I am normally size 12, so may order 6 rather than 8. (Sorry to hijack!)
