Best home highlighting kit on a budget?

So my hair is desperate for more highlights but I can't afford salon prices for a while . Can anyone recommend a home kit, preferably not much more than £10, that will help cover my horrific roots?!

Anyone? any good home hair dye recommendations would be fab. Obviously my hair is darker at the roots. Would I be better getting a root touch up?

Root touch up is good. Not sure over highlights though as its meant to be on the one coulour of hair? It might look like a patch of colour along parting?

I used l'oreal perfect blonde highlight kit yesterday. Really easy kit, leave on 45 mins and hair lovely and bright. In fact my daughter just commented on it. Only about £6 from Boots.

That's what I worried about with the root touch up.
