Why do cordless tongs/brushes not seem to exist anymore?

My trusty Braun has broken after 10+ years and they just don't seem to be on sale much anymore. And even if I could find one could I get gas cartridges for it? I'd have thought by now there'd be a fancy rechargeable battery version....

Any ideas?

I still use my cordless braun. I buy the gas cartridges in superdrug, so you can definitely still buy them. Not sure about the actual tongs thou- I'd always assume Argos?
