Opaque tights and ballet pumps the way to go.
Still hoping for a few more sunny days though!

MrsBadger · 14/09/2006 18:20

opaques and ballet pumps at the moment, and in a month or two, opaques and long boots thus or thus - ideally boots long enough to meet the shorts.

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2006 18:25

Aha - are city shorts still going to be 'in' over the winter then, for going out in? When I go out I always wear smart, slim jeans which look nice, but thought the shorts would be an alternative to wear with the same tops and shoes.

I'd probably fake tan although I keep my tan for ages so I've still got colour (not dead brown but not pasty)

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 08:10

oh thanks mrsB for links

what colour boots would you wear with grey shorts? (quite pale grey)
ggd, i think the same as you, an alternative to jeans, which i live in during the day, although have pairs i only wear for going out

MrsBadger · 15/09/2006 13:18

I only have black boots so would wear those, but probably with a black top

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 13:21

htat would be nice

what colour tights would go with the grey shorts?

sorry to be a pest mrsB

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 15/09/2006 13:29

oh, tights must be same colour as either shorts or boots, so black is easy, but there are lots of grey tights out there this autumn so that may work if you can get some close enough

sorry I left you dangling there!

but but

finding grey tights the right shade is going to be a nightmare

what about nude tights?

(at a push)

OP posts:
bluejelly · 15/09/2006 13:35

Not a big fan of nude tights they always look fake imo

bluejelly · 15/09/2006 13:35

And you feel like an air hostess

bluejelly · 15/09/2006 13:35

No offence to air hostesses

MrsBadger · 15/09/2006 13:48

Wouldn't really recommend nude tights with shorts & boots unless they actually overlap - the band of pale skin would draw the eye when what you really want is a long-lean-leg silhouette effect.
Patterned ones like these wouldn't need to be an exact colour match to look good (the Next 'mink' ones at top left here are worth a try too) and there are heaps of black patterned ones out there. Actually fine black fishnets could work really well.

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 13:51

i actually meant tights to wear with shoes with shorts

OP posts:
nailpolish · 15/09/2006 13:52

i HAVE these black diamond pattern tights already

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 15/09/2006 13:53

oh god, sorry!

nude fine then, esp in this weather; save the opaques and the patterneds for when it's colder

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 13:56

i was going to wear the black pattern ones with black boots and shorts, but then thought i might wear shoes instead - so nude is fine? with shoes?

god, you would think this was a decision on world peace or something, sorry to be such a pita!

maybe if i actually went upstairs and tried it all on and had a looksee as to what it looked like that might help...

personally i think tights in a bright colour would look great. grey city shorts, black knee high boots and maybe red tights. so you can just see a splash of colour. with a nice black jumper and red scarf.

aitch71 · 15/09/2006 21:00

definitely colour, i think. plum, red, dark green, that sort of thing.

zoeuk1 · 15/09/2006 21:02

i think so aitch. a nice autumn colour.

aitch71 · 15/09/2006 21:13

although i'd deffo go for bright red myself.

M&S is doing three pairs of dark green tights in a pack, not expensive. i got some, but i can't say for definite what they're like as it'sbeen too hot to try them on.

flutterbee · 15/09/2006 21:22

Burn the bastard things, there bloody disgusting.
