Casual sandals that are not Birkenstocks or Reef

You ladies haven't failed me yet - so I'm trying a question about sandals. I need some comfy, casual sandals for things like camping and walking (and for shoving on when I need to drive and can't drive in flip-flops). I have some smarter 'work' sandals, but need something more durable.

Whilst I know some folk can carry off Birkenstocks (and maybe even Reef sandals at a pinch), they' re really not my style - I'm usually slightly smarter than that. Can you think of any style of sandal that might suit?

Do they have to be totally flat?
How about clogs?www.lottafromstockholm.co.uk/clogs/low-heel-clogs.html/

People rave about saltwater sandals but I don't get it.

tethersend · 26/07/2014 15:03

I can highly recommend yokono.

I have these and they are blissfully comfy. Size down though.

ZaraW · 26/07/2014 16:11

I can recommend Born Juney sandals really comfortable and look ok.

SuburbanCrofter · 26/07/2014 19:26

Thanks ladies, some good suggestions! I also looked at Saltwater sandals and I thought they looked nice Grin

I bought some Saltwater sandals at the start of the summer and thought they were quite fugly when they arrived. But I wore them anyway as I was desperate for sandals and too lazy to pack them up to return them and I cannot believe how many people have complimented them - they are my most complimented clothing item!!! Even men have said they are nice (which my DH can't quite believe as he hates them) - it's bizarre. They are comfortable too.

SuburbanCrofter · 26/07/2014 20:05

tethersend - no UK stockists seem to have Yokono sandals in my size!

tethersend · 26/07/2014 20:10

What's your size? Which ones did you like?

rootypig · 26/07/2014 20:16

Saltwaters are unbelievably comfortable and practical, if that's important. They're designed to get wet with no ill effect (hence the name) - I really like them for that reason. And they have never, ever rubbed. So that's nice.

GerbilsAteMyCat · 26/07/2014 22:54

How wide are the Yokono shoes? I like the look of them but have hobbit feet.

SnazzyHotFlush · 26/07/2014 23:02

I love my Fly London Oily patent sandals. Low wedge and haven't rubbed at all.

SnazzyHotFlush · 26/07/2014 23:03

Also pretty wide which is helpful in this sort of heat.

tethersend · 26/07/2014 23:19

Gerbils, the ones I have are fairly wide- I am a wide 7.5 and the 7 fits me perfectly.

GerbilsAteMyCat · 26/07/2014 23:29

Ooo tethersend thank you! I will order from ebay on payday!

SuburbanCrofter · 27/07/2014 09:56

tethersend I like thesewww.yokonoshoes.co.uk/yokono-shoes-uk.asp?ProdID=28&CatID=7&SubCatID=19&Artist=Buy+Sandals+shoes&q=Buy+Ibiza+722+shoes and I am a size 6 - fairly standard!

Although I like the idea that the Saltwaters can get wet. emsyj, I think maybe people like them because they look like sandals from childhood - therefore they give people a happy nostalgic feeling! Grin

Look at Merrill, I have some from there that fit your requirements

SuburbanCrofter · 27/07/2014 10:17

Thanks tethersend. Did slightly have my heart set on tan though - I can't find any Saltwaters in tan size 6 either!!

am looking at Merrell too, they are pretty pricey though.

Modcloth (US website) ships saltwaters to the UK for $19. The sandal is $35, so it comes out to slightly less than what they retail for here.

SuburbanCrofter · 27/07/2014 10:24

I've found these that aren't too frumpy (are they ladies?) but £75 (plus shipping) seems a lot to spend on something I'm not sure about....

Not keen on those, TBH.

How about these; Esska shoes have really soft moulded footbeds and are fantastically comfortable.

SuburbanCrofter · 27/07/2014 11:17

Oh tethersend I love those!

However I have just ordered the Saltwater in dark brown - it was the fact that they are waterproof that swayed me.

I bought these recently, love them!

mirpuppet · 27/07/2014 15:48

I have Merrel sandals and they are more comfortable than my Saltwater sandals.
