What's the deal with bras/bra straps showing?

Obviously leaving aside the rule that you should wear what you feel good in etc.

I think a bit of bra back, strap or even cup showing is fine, especially if the bra is pretty (and clean!). But I've seen a few things recently that I think are downright odd.

  • Strapless dresses worn with non-strapless bras
  • Tops with skinny straps worn with bras with scaffolding-width straps
  • Backless tops/dresses worn with ordinary, non-backless bras
  • A dress with a string bikini-style top worn with a strapless, nude, molded-cup bra - and I know this because acres of the cups were on display

It's a huge gripe of mine because I love backless dresses/tops and so many of them are just impossible to wear unless you go braless. And I hate the fact that large-cup bras all have such thick straps. Should I just get over myself and display my bra with pride? But I think it looks AWFUL.

Live and let live? It's a bra pity some topless men don't wear them on the highstreet

I don't really care if my bra is showing tbh Grin I'm a regular bra strap exposer because it's not possible to find my bra size with skinny straps!

I don't understand it either. I was stood behind a girl on a shop the other day, and there was someone in front of me wearing a circular cut out back dress. She had a greying fraying grubby bra on underneath. It looked awful

I am with you op. It spoils the look of the clothes when you have bra in display. I don't wear backless tops or dresses because I don't feel comfortable braless but I wouldn't dream of having a bra on with it.

There was an episode of sex and the city, where carrie wore a very nice evening dress that was completely backless, and she had a black bra on. I often think that the backless dress and bra look stems from this.

Thanks for the biscuits Smile

Glad it isn't just me though. It seems so odd, and I wonder if the exposed-boxer-shorts thing for men has contributed a bit to the trend? If so, I'm a bit, "You go, sisters!" about it, but I still don't like either look.
