Advice needed re wedding outfit - boring I know but please help......

Right, I'm off to a very glam wedding on Friday and have bought a navy pin stripe trouser suit from H&M and was thinking of wearing it with brown high strappy sandals and a fitted brown flowery shirt underneath. This outfit is absolutely fine, a tiny bit tight but not too, I think and the suit will be useful for work purposes later.
However I saw and tried this on yesterday and it looks fab, however it is quite expensive at £85, I would have to return the suit.
What do you all think I should do?

Defo go for the dress, I would.
Plus, it could be used for work afterwards if that was a big factor with the suit

badkarma · 13/09/2006 11:43

The suit sounds more work than wedding.... go with the dress then you can team it with a jacket if you want to wear it to work.

suit sounds more "useful" (dress up at christmas with glittery top/skirt?) whereas you might not want to wear the dress to consecutive do's. dress would look nice with jeans underneath..

Carmenere · 13/09/2006 11:47

The suit is more practical but I just don't want to go to this wedding wearing a badly fitting cheap suit. I probably would get some wear out of the dress work wise...

It sounds like you will feel more confortable in the dress. Comfort definitely top of the list for something you'll be wearing all day, IMO.

Get the dress

bundle · 13/09/2006 11:50

oh go on, treat youself (grey is the new black & all that)

MrsBadger · 13/09/2006 11:51

The fact you say the suit outfit is 'a tiny bit tight' leads me to believe you're not 100% happy with it...
I love the dress - it's a classic that won't date so don't get too hung up on the expense. Just remember you have it - wear it for Christmas events with heels, all other winter weddings for next 5 yrs etc etc.

(and at the risk of dissing the first outfit, I am trying and failing to see how a brown flowery blouse would work under a blue striped suit)

Carmenere · 13/09/2006 11:58

You are all right of course, I'm going to return the suit and get the dress, thanks xxx

I returned the suit and went to Monsoon and tried on 6 different dresses which all made me look like an overweight 40's housewife. Tried on the grey one last and it looked really nice so I bought it
Thanks for the encouragement all

Can I just say how much I love Mrs Badger's no nonsense advice .....you should become a life coach...

MrsBadger · 14/09/2006 11:14

thank you!

and hurrah for Carmenere's new dress - you'll look fantastic!

LiliLaTigresse · 14/09/2006 11:22

oooh, nice thread, I have a wedding in November so might go have a look at that dress too!!! Would be easy to wear again which is a big factor in my choice....

Carmenere · 14/09/2006 11:29

Do LLT but for some reason the sleeves on the actual dress are 3/4 lenght not baboon lenght as in the pic and the under-dress is light grey not black as it appears in the pic. Both improvements imo.

Actually this is one of the reasons I could never shop for clothes online.

it does sound better the way you describe it
I like grey on me, better than black
what shoes and accessories are you wearing with it?

Carmenere · 14/09/2006 11:43

I've got nice very high black pointy toed court shoes and a long black fitted coat, bright red handbag and my fair hair is being blowdried tommorow am. Not sure about tights, may be a bit warm but I'm considering black opaques, what do you think?

sounds great!!!!
I think you should be fine with bare legs at this time of year

Carmenere · 14/09/2006 11:51

Thanks, I think you are right, I'll do a fake tan tonight. As the wedding is in a marquee in a field beside a lake and the weather is supposed to be inclement, I'll have my trustee flip flops in my handbag for later on in the night
