No blow dry after colour - anyone elses hairdresser do this?

I've been going to the same hairdresser for about 13 years.

Always been very happy.

I have a cut only about 3 or 4 times a year, but have my gray roots coloured every three weeks without fail. A colour costs nearly £50, but I have now been told (by the girl who was about to dry my hair) that due to price restructuring, a blow dry will cost an extra £10, and I need to book it when I make an apt, other wise my hair will just be rough dried.

TBH, I'm a bit annoyed by this. The blow dry after a colour was always by a junior person, who is learning, and can at times take ages,but hey everyone's go to learn. I'm wondering if the salon isn't taking any juniors on this year, and so no one needs to learn to blow dry.

Anyway, what ever the reason, I'm thinking of looking elsewhere, or is this normal now?

I don't get my hair coloured so I don't know. I'd actually very politely tell them that you're otherwise happy but that this will put you off coming again. It's better they get feedback and for the sake of a quick blow-dry they may to a u-turn on their decision.

I'd say that was normal practice but perhaps a bit harsh to introduce suddenly somewhere you've been a faithful client so long. But don't know how much time and trouble it takes to blow dry your hair.

My central London colourist will get someone to dry my hair for nothing on rare occasions when I'm not also having it cut (usually get cut and colour done together every 6 weeks)but it is short and choppy.

My hairdresser has always done this. I have a short bob so get my hair cut quite frequently and so get blow dry anyway.

I get my hair coloured very regularly old lady roots and the blow dry is the best bit. Tell them to jog on, a tenner is a real cheek.

I used to work in a salon and a blow dry would be charged at full price! Or you can have a rough dry which is ok, at least you're not leaving with wet hair! A proper blow dry takes 30-45 mins and that's a hairdressers appt alot which equals money, totally reasonable. £10 is a bargain!

I'd tell them you are looking elsewhere unless they include the blow dry. As a regular who spends £800 a year on root colour alone they can through in the blow dry.

My salon does this too. I don't understand the logic of including a blow dry in the price of a cut, but excluding it from the price of colouring.

I guess it depends where you live. I definitely go to the most expensive salon in town. Looking around, another salon, which also has a good reputation only charges £20 for a tint re-growth, using the same make of colour. No idea why kind of drying they offer.

Although I agree, £10 for a blow dry is cheap, but it is with a trainee stylist.

I've always been charged for a blow dry after a colour, and I get my hair coloured every 5 weeks. Not that I see the point of the blow dry as there's always a line of brown on my skin around my hairline so I have to wash it at home anyway

Normal ....I get charged 15 pounds for a junior to blow dry after my colour

Do you pay 50 pounds for your roots every 3 weeks? I get a touch up between main appointments and its much less

I hate getting more hair blow dried, they straighten the crap out of my hair which makes it limp and flat, I'd prefer they gave me the option to leave with it wet and charge less.

I pay £42 for an all over colour, cut and blow dry every 8-10 weeks.

The blow dry mine as part of the price. I have long, extremely thick hair. The blow dry takes 10-15 mins not 45! I would expect it as part of it.

I've had highlights for the last 20 something years and have always had a blow dry. It's part of the service. The only time that was even suggested was when I was trying a new hairdresser and they said they didn't have enough staff so did I mind blow drying my own hair. I never went back.

If they leave it wet, how do you know if you like the colour?!

I don't like getting my hair blow dried so it would irritate me to pay the same as other customers who are getting one. IYSWIM

Trainees can take for bloody ever. I left my place as they started this. Have mobile person. She shoves on colour and pisses off

I think it´s normal for them to charge separately for the colour and blowdry, however it is a pain if you have to book both. I would assume that they would book you in for both unless you state just a rough dry or no drying (or doublecheck with you when you book the colour).

They'd be charging away their tip money

I like it separated out, I never, ever pay for a blow dry as I've never been happy with it. I have it rough dried and save the cash. My salon charge an extra £25 though

I do the same Snake. My hair dresser is about 5 mins walk from home so I always make an appointment for half a head of highlights and a wet cut. I then walk home and dry it myself, as I have curly hair that confuses the best of hairdressers. I pay about £100 which is quite expensive I think, so I agree, £10 for a blow dry is a bargain.
