Bra showing under arms of strappy sun dresses

Anything I can do? Bought two nice sundresses without trying them on, but below armpit have lovely (not) display of about 3 inches of bra Sad.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a new bra.

Happy36 · 16/07/2014 21:14

Those dresses are everywhere this summer! Try a flesh coloured bra, no bra, strapless bra, bra with low straps (multiway), vest top underneath or, my personal favourite, a bikini top - it's fine to show your bikini according to the nonsensical unwritten laws of female fashion.

Feenie · 16/07/2014 21:14

Do any exist though that are really low under your armpit? Anyone seen any?

Tried vest top, looks daft under tiny strappy sundress.

shorten straps of dress a little. Wear bra in similar colour to dress

Thurlow · 16/07/2014 21:24

I hate this. I'm really short and it's my biggest problem with dresses. Most of my work dresses I have to wear with cardigans or occasionally with same-coloured vests underneath.

I do take a lot of thinner straps ups.

Feenie · 16/07/2014 21:26

I'm about 5' 6" so not particularly short. Maybe I am just a weird shape. Taking up straps could be a good idea, thanks.

I would wear a gorgeous bra in a contrasting and loud colour/patterns

Make a feature of it.

I am a bit mutton though.Smile

Fairylea · 16/07/2014 21:30

I agree with Tondelayo. I'm a 30gg so my bras often show underneath things but I don't care, I just wear a summery colour and go for it.

rollonthesummer · 16/07/2014 21:42

Take up the straps- I'm short and do that a lot! Strapless bras can be good, too.

Is going braless an option?!!

thenightsky · 16/07/2014 21:44

I'm tall but I must be short in the armpits coz I have this trouble too. I shorten the straps by looping them over and stitching the excess away at the back. It makes the arm holes much smaller.

ThisBitchIsResting · 16/07/2014 22:58

I don't care! I just wear the dress with straps showing. I am quite fussy and stylish I think, but I'm just not arsed about this. Strappy sundress = laid back summer wear = shouldn't equal then wearing industrially engineered undergarments. A bra in a similar colour to top or dress is absolutely fine IMO.

Feenie · 16/07/2014 23:04

34E - braless not really an option Grin

Feenie · 16/07/2014 23:06

My bra looks exactly like an industrially engineered garment!

CambridgeBlue · 17/07/2014 07:13

I sympathise - think it's a bigger boobs problem. I'm a 34FF and the bras in my size just have more material to hold everything in place.

Personally I don't like wearing a flesh coloured bra unless I'm wearing white as I think they look particularly horrible if they show, really grannyish! White as long as it is white and not grey is OK but I prefer a pretty coloured bra so if a bit of it shows it looks deliberate and less like underwear iyswim.

Branleuse · 17/07/2014 07:16

34e, are you sure??

bra intervention :)

OwlCapone · 17/07/2014 07:20

I don't care if it shows a bit either. It does sound like the straps of the dress are too long. I am tall but with long legs and a short body so I have had to alter straps in the past to improve the fit of something.

You can get 34E bras that don't look like scaffolding though :)

Feenie · 17/07/2014 07:21

Oh yes - thought I was 38B before bra intervention Smile

Funny moment with 4 year old ds - when the lady had measured me and disappeared off to get something suitable, he stared at me with my boobs out and said "do you know her?" Grin

OP posts:
Feenie · 17/07/2014 07:23

They only seem to look like scaffolding on that bit under the arms poking out, ifyswim.

Have long legs and short body too. Going to try the loop/stitch thing, sounds like a winner. Thanks everybody Smile

I fondly remember my 34C days of delicate bras.. [sigh]

eatyourveg · 17/07/2014 08:31

I am short and have the same problem and solve it by going for something in a similar colour or something loud. Loop/stitch thing changes the shape of the dress ime

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 17/07/2014 09:10

Your DS's comment made me LOL Feenie

Feenie · 17/07/2014 10:51

Me too Grin

SaveTheMockingBird · 17/07/2014 11:03

Your DS's comment made me laugh too OP!

I have the same problem actually. I'm short though with 28F boobs. I've been wearing a vest top underneath to disguise the bra but I am going on holiday to south of france and I really dont want to have to wear a vest top in that heat.
Maybe I'll get a bright coloured bra to go underneath them. I have a pink one already which would work with the navy one, but I have the same dress in a flowery pattern which might not work with the pink bra.
hmmm

goodasitgets · 17/07/2014 11:22

I find cleo and ewa michalak much lower under the arms
