Is anyone my shape? Where should I shop to buy trousers that actually fit me?

I have a size 14 waist and size 16 hips. I have a very high waist.

I can rarely find trousers to fit me. I try on a size 14 and I either cannot get the trousers over my hips or I get them over my hips but they don't do up as high as my waist is, so I cannot do them up.

If I wear a size 16, I get them over my hips and they gape massively around my waist. A belt doesn't help.

I've tried low-wasited trousers so I'm buying a size 16 that ends at my hips, but they don't stay up and are generally too big.

I mostly need casual trousers as I am a SAHM - I don't mind buying more expensive jeans trousers if they actually fit me and they're classic enough to live in my wardrobe for a few years.

Please help if you can.

Where do you shop atm?

Sophiev73 · 12/09/2006 08:03

hmmm I can only add I've got exactly the same problem in a 16/18 combination... I sometimes get Principles trousers that fit well but will watch this thread with interest. What's a SAHM?

Stay At Home Mum

oh. no wonder didn't get that one, not a thing in my life....

WeaselMum · 12/09/2006 09:25

I have a similar problem and have just bought a pair of size 16 trousers at Principles that are ok at the waist. Sometimes M&S and Monsoon are good. Two years back I found some cargo pant style trousers at M&S that sat low on the hips but not so low that they fell down. I bought two and wore them all the time but don't fit back in them yet since my pregnancy!

Like you I would pay more for something that fits - I end up just wearing tracksuit bottoms but it's not like they're so flattering either!

It's compounded for me but the fact I'm short and need petite ranges!

The art is to find a pair of trousers that fit and then check that manufacturers waist to hip measurements - they differ widly. You can normally check this on line.

I have a small waist and big hips/bottom and have similar problem. Brands that fit me, though not cheap, are Phase Eight, Artigiano - look out for the sales.

Also I find side zips and no waistbands seem to be more forgiving.

Oh yes, I agree about the side zips. I got a pair of smart black trousers which have a side zip and immediately went and bought another pair as soon as I realised how well they fit. They are the most flattering trousers on me.
