Where can I get an unusual winter coat?

I know it's a bit early but DH wants to get me a pressie and this is the only thing I really need. Maybe I can benefit from the sales.
I've had a look round (on the internet) and not feeling very inspired. I'm well overdue a new coat, we don't have much money so don't get new clothes very often, so want something I really love.
I want something knee length, and I like hoods. I have a bit of a hippy boho style, but nothing too out there. Any ideas, or any shops other than high street that I don't know about?
Thanks!

Desigual?

StairsInTheNight · 10/07/2014 02:55

I was coming on to say Desiguel!

PinklePurr · 10/07/2014 03:06

The loveliest coat I have ever had was from Joe Brown's.

Romcom · 10/07/2014 05:28

Joe browns! I find their clothes a bit wacky but I have several gorgeous coats from there that I am always complimented on.

MrsAtticus · 10/07/2014 10:23

Oh great thanks, I have seen some desiguel ones which I thought were a bit ott but I'll have another look, hadn't thought of Joe Browns.

Not much on their website at the moment (Joe Browns) as I suppose it's the wrong season. Found this on ebay:

but it's a bit too similar to my spring/autumn coat!

Gorgeous but might make my bum look big...

Have you tried Nomads clothing. They always seem to have some in their clearance section.

eBay is worth a trawl. Look under 'lagenlook' ,Gudrun Sjoden (although these can be a bit wacky 1980's social worker) and Gringo (occasional gem but more reminiscent of 1990's crusty scene).

PeterParkerSays · 10/07/2014 11:09

I was going to say Joe Browns as well, I have an asymmetric winter coat from there. Look again nearer September, their winter coats are fab, I've had loads of comments about mine.

MrsAtticus · 10/07/2014 14:39

Milm yes I love nomads but not keen on what they've got in right now.
Grin to wacky 1980's social worker, not quite the look I'm aiming for!

Also Avoca or Noa Noa. They often have nice, interesting coats.

MrsAtticus · 11/07/2014 09:42

Thanks for the suggestions, I've not yet found my ideal coat! Think I might have to look again in a couple of months.

I agree with Milmingebag, Nomads are just gorgeous.

Nomads

Germgirl · 11/07/2014 09:54

As soon as I saw your title I thought Joe Browns. They do some lovely, unusual clothes, (and some complete crap, but the coats are good quality)

MrsAtticus · 13/07/2014 00:49

some lovely nomads sale coats but they don't have the color I like in my size.
Like this but silver buttons a but cheap looking?

Tempted to wait for Joe Browns autumn stuff.

Google "Calvary" on imDb and look at the coat the red-haired actress wears in the fourth image. Fabulous.

Magnificent film, too. I cried at the end.

upupupandaway · 13/07/2014 10:11

I have a military style coat, lost most of the buttons and had to get about 20 replacement ones, not cheap.

ThatBloodyWoman · 13/07/2014 10:13

Charity or vintage shop.
E bay.

tethersend · 13/07/2014 10:13

I'd get something furry and vintage

MrsAtticus · 13/07/2014 14:26

I tried echt but just got loads of crosses!
tether I'm not sure I could carry that off! I like real fur coats but probably wouldn't wear one out of guilt or fear of being beaten up by vegetarians

I quite like Ness. You might want to wait until they get their winter stock in though

saythatagain · 13/07/2014 16:03

I'm just perusing the nomad website; what is their sizing like?

MrsAtticus · 13/07/2014 22:55

I've only ever bought trousers from Nomads, sizing a tad on the small size if I remember rightly.

OP posts:
MrsAtticus · 13/07/2014 22:57

Oh yes I like the look of Ness, I'll have a look in a couple of months.
