Bought some self tanning moisturising stuff - can I fuck this up?

It's Dove. Never used it before. I've bought this skirt you see, (I don't do skirts) but my legs are appalling. Like inflated white puddings with scars on from where I scratched at mosquito bites last summer. Sad
I am rubbish at anything like this - does anyone know how noticeable the effect will be after one application? I mean, my chest and arms are already quite tanned, but my legs are almost blue!

Current plan is to jump in shower, shave and scrub all over, then dry and apply... Any advice welcome!

Just go for it. You won't notice it til you've used it for 2-3 days on the trot. It's impossible to mess up

KimSlazinger · 06/07/2014 00:01

You still need to use a proper moisturiser on knees and ankles first IMO. Or they go orange.

Shave, exfoliate and moisturise. And the put the cream in. Otherwise you'll have weirdly orange feet like I did.

CatKisser · 06/07/2014 06:38

Bloody Hell.
Well, I read your helpful ado de too late...and oh my god are my legs bright today!! On the rest of my body there's just a kind of noticeable healthsome glow...but because my legs were so white to begin with, it's really visible. And I've clearly used too much stuff as I have stripes! Bugger, bugger, bugger.
Should I shower and repeat tonight and ensure I use the right amount this time? Or let this lot wear off?

I am so pale even gradual tan looks orange on me.

CatKisser · 06/07/2014 07:03

Yup, think that's the case with my legs.
Leggings firmly in place for today until I can sort this disaster out.
Rest of me looks pretty great though Wink Love the slight tan on my face.

If you put on another layer tonight it should even out the stripes!

CatKisser · 06/07/2014 07:36

Thank you!!!

Can you use loads of body scrub to get it off?

Pollywallywinkles · 06/07/2014 10:38

I would let it fade before you put anymore on.

Personally I would exfoliate and shave, moisturise, paying particular attention to any dry areas I.e. Knees and ankles. I would also mix the dove with some body creme for the first few applications. Probably a quarter moisturiser to 3/4 dove. It dilutes it a bit and you will get a more even coverage.

Chachah · 06/07/2014 11:36

well I've fucked it up before - if you use it on legs that haven't been properly dried, you get white streaks and spots... I looked like a giraffe :-/

Furball · 06/07/2014 11:53

I have made this mistake in the past and now use St Tropez instant tan, so you can see exactly what is what not a surprise when you wake up in the morning. Smile

Ok it doesn't last as long, but you know where you are with it and can sort it there and then

ithoughtofitfirst · 06/07/2014 12:28

I used this stuff for years.

The first layer is always a bit shit. I used to do it every other day. Shower everyday with one of the poofy things. I also used latex gloves to apply so that it wouldn't stain my palms.

Chachah · 06/07/2014 12:42

oh yes that's the other thing - wash your hands after use!!

hashtagwhatever · 06/07/2014 12:46

Just keep using it. The strips will even out and mosturise with a normal moisturiser in the morning's tostop the colour cracking.

hashtagwhatever · 06/07/2014 12:47

Ps I find the Johnson gradual tan a better colour than dove. For future reference
