What the hell do I wear with a slim-fit maxi skirt please?

I got tricked into buying this skirt from FatFace by MIL at the weekend. She said it looked lovely, and so it does, really suits me. Until I attempt to put any other clothes on.

Turns out I don't actually own any tops that could go with it, I'm not even sure what shape top would work. Please inspire me before I take it back. I don't want to.

Just a nice black semi fitted tee worn out. I have lots of skirts like this. I also have a lovely mid length sheer plain black blouse that sits beautifully. On my feet i wear some flat sandals.

You could also wear a black vest with it.

My sheer blouse is similar to this - no collar or fuss and is slimmer on the bust.

Personally I wouldn't wear black with it, but I agree a more fitted t shirt or vest top would work. The fat face website suggests to wear it with a lace back vest (I assume one of theirs)

A black lace vest would look very pretty.

I would wear a wide cropped top / t-shirt and wedges.

Just think Japanese kimono style!

I like the semi fitted idea. I don't own anything like that though. A fitted tee or vest makes me look all hips with this skirt aging me drastically.

I am a pear too. Just make sure the tee you get covers the bit you dislike..top of the band if its gathered as that can make anyone look huge.

Hmm. I'm finding that the longer the top, the worse it looks. I'm wondering if a shorter top that stops loosely at the waistband would work?

When you say cropped how short do you mean?

I have khaki skirt like this. I wear it with a longer length black vest top. I think the longer length is the thing that makes it work.

Its all about experimenting with your own body shape. Try a variety of different tees and see the length that most flatters you.

A flouncy sort of blouse that stops above the waist?

I'm off to tkmaxx in a minute with my skirt to experiment as far as a cheeky toddler will allow me to do. I have an idea now of what might work.

How about a fairly fitted t-shirt or cami and then a cropped denim jacket or shirt worn open, over it?

A white t would look good.

I found a couple of nice vests in Sainsburys of all places. One white with twisty shoulders and one navy with embellished hem, both stopping at my hipbone. Only a stopgap but I'm happy to keep the skirt for now. I will be rocking the boxy baggy jumper come september I suspect.
