So do we still love Clinique Chubby Sticks or is there something better out there?

I've really got into wearing brighly coloured lipsticks. The problem is that I have very dry skin and get on much better with a more glossy/lip balmy texture. I've been using a couple of the Kate Moss Rimmell lipsticks, I love the colour (and the price!) but find them very drying.

I've never used Chubby Sticks but have heard that they are non-drying like a balm but have quite a dense colour like a lipstick. Would you recommend them? Or any better (and possibly cheaper) alternatives? Thanks

There are two shades free on thus months Glamour. Not full size but still quite large and magazines is £2 so worth a try at that price.

I got Woppin Watermelon which is very pale/sheer, but the other shade is strawberry something which is apparently darker

melissa83 · 03/07/2014 13:55

Soz didnt read comment above. Ignore me!

Lottapianos · 03/07/2014 14:22

Oh wow, what a timely question! Thanks both, I never glossy mags but will make an exception in this case. I'm guessing you're two satisfied Chubby Stick customers?

are they full sized chubby sticks on the mag?

I'd best be quick, the local kids rip the plastic and nick all the good freebies from magazines here.

seasalt50 · 03/07/2014 15:54

Doubt they're full size wildbill, they are £17 each!

Here's the swatch chart from Clinique www.clinique.co.uk/product/1605/15520/Makeup/Lipsticks/NEW-Chubby-Stick-Moisturising-Lip-Colour-Balm/index.tmpl

Pudgy Peony is fab!

netty36 · 03/07/2014 17:53

I've started using Bobbi Brown art sticks... Utterly gorgeous. They come in a massive fat pencil in a range of lovely colours and have excellent staying power.

standingonlego · 03/07/2014 19:31

pudgy peony and two ton tomato always in my handbag :)

justcallmethefixer · 06/07/2014 14:21

Rimmel do a version called colour rush. I have the red and a neutral, both are a good colour intensity and last well

GretchenWiener · 06/07/2014 14:26

the revlon ones are WAY WAY better

Poussay · 06/07/2014 14:31

I love these - thanks for the tip about glamour mag. Maybe can try some new shades. My favs are the watermelon and strawberry.

Cuteypatootey · 06/07/2014 14:36

Which reckon

Cuteypatootey · 06/07/2014 14:37

Which reckon ones - name please?

Cuteypatootey · 06/07/2014 14:38

Dang phone -
Meant to say which revlon ones?

AntoinetteCosway · 06/07/2014 15:04

I like the Revlon ones too. Excellent pigment. Also, minty!

DaftSkunk · 06/07/2014 17:00

I haven't been able to find any chubby sticks with Glamour, only mascara.

Lottapianos · 06/07/2014 17:01

Hmm, well I got the Watermelon one from the Glamour mag - nice colour but I really don't think I would spend 17 quid on a full size one so thanks for saving me some money!

I bought a Revlon one a couple of years ago but had to give it away, found it horribly drying.

I use loads of different brands of chubby sticks and have found Barbara Daly in Tesco to be the most moisturising.

CountBapula · 06/07/2014 17:03

Try the Revlon Lip Butters (rather than the minty pencil thing that looks like a chubby stick). Great colour payoff and feel very comfortable on. Think Revlon is on offer at Superdrug at the moment.

andsmile · 06/07/2014 17:04

Ive been using the No7 equivalent (I think) and I love the balance of glossy balm and colour. I do reapply a few times during day.

Ive foudn them a good way to try stronger/bright colours

Carpaccio · 06/07/2014 17:20

I really like Chubby Sticks. The normal ones (like the ones in Glamour) aren't massively pigmented - for me they are more like a tinted lip balm with regards to colour payoff.
The Chubby Sticks Intense are great - they are more pigmented and are more lipstick-like with regards to the colour payoff.

As an alternative to the Chubby Sticks, I apply a good lip balm (I like Nuxe, especially the one in the glass jar as it's matte) and then a little bit of a normal lipstick on top. It lasts well, doesn't dry out my lips, is low maintenance and adds enough colour without being too much.

Pixi tinted brilliance balms are great too.

As far as I can tell, the Chubby sticks in the magazine are 1.2 grams (normal are 3 grams). It doesn't say on them, but they look the same size as the ones that are sold in a gift set with a few different colours around Christmas.

GretchenWiener · 06/07/2014 17:21

the minty revlon one - slightly metallic cover

MMMMMM

Deathraystare · 07/07/2014 13:36

Somewhat underwhelmed by the strawberry one I got on Glamour mag. I would not pay £17 for it but do like the Boots and Rimmel ones.

justaweeone · 07/07/2014 13:59

I like the rimmel ones

kaykayblue · 07/07/2014 14:19

I love the clinique chubby sticks. My favourite is whole lotta honey, which is the most gorgeous natural nude shade. Second favourite is probably curvy candy (which is like a pale pink/apricot colour) and finally roomiest rose. Roomiest rose has definitely got the strongest colour our of all of them, but it is a "chubby stick intense" so that's probably why.

I use all of them on my lips and cheeks. For the cheeks I just draw a couple of small lines on my cheeks and then just rub in. Easiest make up ever.

They are expensive but they last for AGES. Definitely worth the money imo.
