I want some Birkenstocks

Have seen some lovely ones in office with a silver leather strap (the mule style ones)

So, style and beauty jury, are they a YES or a deffo NO Grin

Definitely yes from me. Just google fashion blog birkenstock and see all the images that come up.

I've got black Arizonas (double strap) which I wear all the time and also khaki and white Madrids (single strap). So comfy too.

littleSpud · 03/07/2014 16:04

Ooh thanks will check out that blog

Just a bit worried I'll look frumpy not fashionable as I'm 34 and a mum of 3 not a cool 20 something Grin

Ooh you've just reminded me I've got two pairs to sell on ebay. I can't get on with the fecking things, they rip my feet to shreds.

m0therofdragons · 03/07/2014 16:19

I love them and live in them in the summer. I'm 32 mother of 3 girls and no I never feel frumpy in them. Mine are colorful pink and green pattern Ann's other pair is pale blue and silver. I wear them with cut off jeans, dresses... in fact, everything!

m0therofdragons · 03/07/2014 16:21

I have papillon ones - not sure what the others are but single strap.

m0therofdragons · 03/07/2014 16:21

Sorry, papillio - both pairs

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 03/07/2014 16:22

Yes from me. I have loads of pairs and haven't worn any other type of sandals for more years than I care to remember.

I don't think they look frumpy, slightly hippy maybe but I like the look of them and they go with anything. I'm very nearly 40 btw.

My favourites are Gizeh, the ones with the toe post. Very comfy and I can walk miles in them.

SlinkyB · 03/07/2014 16:25

Yes, and everything. I like the ones with toe-posts (Gizeh, altho they have new ones out now that MNers have been raving about) as they're better if you need to run around after littlies.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2014 16:39

Plenty of inspiration on Pinterest!

I must confess I still find Birkenstock a bit frumpy, regardless of the amount of pictures of beautiful models wearing them and looking cool. However they are a godsend for those day when my back hurts.

I like Birkenstock with: shorts, and jeans. I suppose they even work well with short dresses.

Softpebbles · 03/07/2014 21:03

I find they really dry my feet out but like how they can look.

iwantgin · 03/07/2014 21:06

I am over 40 and don't think they are frumpy.

bronze gizehs and shocking pink Madrids.

I wear them with everything.

Th only downside is that I can't drive in them

littleSpud · 03/07/2014 21:16

Ooh that's it sold am ordering some

Is silver a good colour? I keep looking at the Mayari which have been recommended on here but can't decide on colour. Love the look of the Gizeh's but cannot do toe posts. Might go have another gander at Madrids now.

CompanionCube · 03/07/2014 22:30

I just got some from Tkmaxx for £25. They were fine the first day but today they have given me blisters on the top of my feet Sad I do really like them though.

rockybalboa · 03/07/2014 22:57

I want some silver ones!

Maleducada · 03/07/2014 23:20

i don't hate them like some people do but they're not comfortable, which is supposed to be the point of them.

lessonsintightropes · 03/07/2014 23:26

I love my Birkies but have to get my feet used to them every summer, as they rip open the top of my feet just below my big toe knuckle. Gorgeous but not as comfy and practical on the first few wearings as you'd hope.

greyvix · 03/07/2014 23:38

My twenty-something DDs have started wearing them this summer. I have worn them for years, and love them.

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 04/07/2014 07:05

I love my (silver, gizeh)Birkenstocks! They are a bit stinky knackered now though, I've had them for years. Does anyone know if they still do vegan ones? I could only find horrible croc-style things on their website Confused

Lovage · 04/07/2014 10:35

Yes, chuckthefucklebrothers, they definitely do - all their 'birko flor' ones are vegan. And they are slightly cheaper than the leather ones, hoooray.

Although the (black, Milano, birko flor) pair I bought, the bit around the buckle rubs against my ankle bone and I wonder whether leather ones would have softened with use and prevented this problem.

hellsbellsmelons · 04/07/2014 10:38

I have some but they are only for holiday.
They are so comfy that I can't NOT wear them.
My OH hates them.
I have the bronze single strap ones and some Birki's

prettymel · 05/07/2014 07:32

Birkenstocks is now back in our fashion. I saw many people using it nowadays. This is very comfortable to use, whenever I use my Birkenstocks I never felt so tired. I use this in the mall and doing some grocery shopping. My DH got his Birkenstocks too, he choose the one with white straps.

GertieFinkle · 05/07/2014 07:38

I have mayari ones, they are soooooo comfy and I live in them in the summer (have a couple of pairs) I'd steer clear of brown ones personally I think they look nicer in colours or silver. I wouldn't wear them with Jeans, I think that does look frumpy for some reason.
