What can I wear to a 50th birthday party this weekend?

It's at our friend's home and it'll be fairly casual but my cut-offs or white stuff skirts don't feel quite right.

If it was winter, I'd wear jeans, heels and a dressy top. Most of the dresses I like are either too short (I'm 5'10") or too clingy. I'm a size 12-14. Tummy is my problem area. Arms and boobs are okay, as are my legs but I don't like going shorter than JUST above the knee.

Skater style dresses suit me and I do like maxi dresses but they all seem to cling to my lumps and bumps (feeling a little sensitive as I've gained about 7lbs over the last couple of months that I'm trying to shift)

Ideas?!

I really like this , this too

I really like the first one. Seriously tempted. Thank you. Although it might be too dressy for this occasion. Second is too short unfortunately.

The first one is gorgeous..but not sure about the occasion tbh. I think it looks too formal.

I've now decided to wear a maxi dress that I already have - because I've ordered the first dress anyway! It'll be great for some other, more formal, events. The style is quite classic and it's one of my colours. Thanks MrsLettuce Smile

I think the FWM dress would dress down easily enough. Would probably look effortless and elegant.

x post. you're welcome Smile

Greengardenpixie · 02/07/2014 22:12

It is a gorgeous dress and a lovely colour :)

OvertiredandConfused · 02/07/2014 22:46

I'm collecting it tomorrow lunchtime so will update tomorrow evening. Even if it won't dress down for Saturday, it will for my god-daughter's confirmation Smile

Did it fit OK?

OvertiredandConfused · 04/07/2014 14:16

Haven't got it yet :-( Work is manic - heading to get it shortly. Will update I promise :-)

If it doesn't work, you could still wear jeans, heels & a dressy top - some nice florals around at the moment Smile

OvertiredandConfused · 09/07/2014 21:52

So I got it. And it's a gorgeous dress but very clingy around my tummy so sadly it had to go back Sad

I wore cream trousers with a bright orange shell top and serious heels.

Cos are generally good: simple shapes, not too short, often cut quite boxy or roomy, but stylishly so. Quite casual but like you've made an effort.

Don't be put off by the sulky models standing in the anatomically neutral position Grin. IME the clothes look much better on.
