Ghds/Braun/Remington straighteners

My lovely but very old Ghds died on me this morning. I've been having a look at the options and I'm intrigued by the Braun stain hair straighteners.

My Ghds whilst managing my frizz (my hair is thick and fizzy with a slight wave rather than full on gorgeous curly) do seem to dry my hair out and the ends can feel a bit straw like if i don't deep condition once a week.

I wondered if anyone had gone from Ghds to another brand and seen an improvement. Reading on amazon everyone seems to compare the straighteners to Ghds and find other brands lacking but I wondered if anyone on here had any recommendations.

I'm happy to buy Ghds if thats what everyone says but are they really still worth the money compared to what is new out there?

I stuck these in my Wish List for when my ghds go, after reading loads of rave reviews on the internet - the reviews actually on Amazon seem good too.....

L'Oreal Steam pod. I never though anything would replace my GHDs but these have.

They get my hair as straight as GHDs but keep it in better condition.

The only negative is they are big (I have the professional size).

L'Oreal Steam pod too, does not seem to dry my hair as much as my GHD's but gives same results. as Rosie says its big so need to perfect the technique but would take up a lot of space if you wanted to travel with it.

Thank you ladies. Think I will get the steampod this month and then the corioliss next month for travelling. I knew there had to be SOMETHING out there that did the job but didn't dry my hair out!

I'm thinking of getting the steam pod...

Just wondering though, I first thought it only worked with steam so would be gentler on hair... But photos look like it has plates too, just like other straightners?

So your hair is steamed and then hot plated?

Can anyone shed more light on this?

Am scared of making an investment but it turning out worse...

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 03/07/2014 17:27

yes it does but it seems that the steam stops it from drying, tbh I think any heat will damage hair but the steam pod is supposed to be better and whilst my ends are dry they are not as 'crispy' as they were with my GHD's you still need a heat protection serum or spray though.

I'm not sure if they sell them in the UK but you can buy them online (and buy a plug adaptor) but the cloud nine straighteners are phenomenal! I'm ex ghd fan but will never go back to,them after using cloud 9.

Thanks ...

I wish they would advertise / explain things more clearly... Whatever I read on the steam pod doesn't even talk about the plates!

I find the remeington one worked on my hair as good as the ghds but I found they left my hair really dry and in bad condition. They just made it feel really unhealthy
