Where do you get wedding guest dresses that aren't coast?

Or too bridesmaidey? It's a 'smart casual' dress code where cocktail dress or skirt and top would do.

I got one of mine from Hobbs and the other from Debenhams. The one from Hobbs I've worn a few times since the other one I still love but not really comfortable wearing anywhere but a wedding.
I hunted for months but I'm terrible at dressing myself!

Phase Eight

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/06/2014 08:22

Warehouse and oasis have some nice stuff in

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/06/2014 08:25

Monsoon

NannyLouise29 · 27/06/2014 08:25

Monsoon and LK Bennett. I generally wear the Monsoon ones multiple times.

Toadsrevisited · 27/06/2014 08:27

I think you could get wedding guest outfits from anywhere really especially if it is smart casual dress code. So the usual high street stores and also online eg asos, the outnet, john lewis (good sale at mo)

So for example something like this top and this skirt could work and then be versatile to wear after separately.

For dresses I like Whistles and they have a good sale on at the moment.

This blog post has quite a few dresses on sale in it, though some are probably a bit casual.

Think you could also wear something like this for a wedding, hers is from HnM she says.

MrPop · 27/06/2014 08:35

this is nice

bberry · 27/06/2014 08:35

Pretty little dress company, ted baker,

libertychick · 27/06/2014 08:37

Do a search on the outnet. For the type of price you might pay at coast you can get something a bit different. Look at DVF, Acne or Tory Burch. Also Matches and My Wardrobe are doing 6p
0% discounts.

libertychick · 27/06/2014 08:37

That should be 60% discount :)

msrisotto · 27/06/2014 09:03

Thanks. I think i'll have to actually go to some of those shops. Looking online, it's really hard to tell what is going to be flattering. Also, high necks really seem to dominate!

I'm impressed at the discounts on the outnet!

God, why is it that I scroll through picking out only cream and white dresses before remembering that I can't wear them to a wedding!

AuntieBrenda · 27/06/2014 09:06

Monsoon
Great Plains
French connection
Oasis

msrisotto · 27/06/2014 09:24

Libertychick - What have you done?? I have 3 dresses in my basket at theoutnet! Can't buy more than one but check these babies out
Alexander McQueen
Diane von furstenberg
and Diane again

I am a bit starstruck, I never thought I could own anything by Alexander McQueen. I adore that print but am a curvy 10-12 and the only size is large which is 12-14 but it does say that if you are curvy size it up....must check out their returns policy.

Love that McQ. Jaeger is also worth a look.

CointreauVersial · 27/06/2014 13:25

Phase Eight?

I just bought a gorgeous dress to wear at my god-daughter's wedding.

donnie · 27/06/2014 13:27

I also love Phase eight - lovely stuff! their sizes come up big though. I tried on a beautiful silk jewel green dress last week but it swallowed me whole!

Frontier · 27/06/2014 13:44

I don't think I've ever bought a "wedding guest" outfit. I get something nice, a dress or a suit, that I'll get lots of wear from.

msrisotto · 27/06/2014 19:53

By "wedding guest" dress, I was saying that I was shopping for a dress, with a wedding I had to go to in mind! I don't think it's all that unusual.

Thanks for the recommendations, I have bought that McQueen dress but am not sure it will fit so will probably keep the other places in mind just in case.

Don't go to the chain shops but try independent boutiques. I always thought they were for old ladies but have been really surprised by what you can find. Joseph Ribkoff is a label I particularly like.

libertychick · 27/06/2014 21:08

Hope the McQ suits you msrisotto. It's lovely. I'll take the blame for starting you off on an outnet addiction Smile.
