Beauty salons/mobile beauticians - what do you have done regularly?

Hello,

I'm just curious really - I've always seen facials/massages etc as a birthday treat rather than regular upkeep like haircuts. I am thinking about getting more done regularly at salons or finding a mobile beautician.

I do get pedicures about once every 5 weeks but when I'm at the salon always hear other customers leave saying 'see you next week' like they go very regularly. Apart from that I get my eyebrows threaded/tinted and eyelashes tinted once in a blue moon.

How often do you go to salons and what for?

(I'm quite a tightwad with money so please enable me.....)

I have dermalogica facial every month and a Caci wrinkle treatment every six weeks.
Pedi every 4 weeks
I am lasered so no more waxing etc
Manicures sporadically

I pay for everything as courses so get 6 treatments for price of 5

RiojaHaze · 22/06/2014 08:25

I have shellac every 2/3 weeks.
Waxing every 4 weeks.
Sporadic spray tans (usually do it myself)
Massage every 4 weeks.

Most people I know that go frequently have nail file and paints and lash/brow tinting weekly.
Having shellac and tattooed eyebrows means I don't need these!

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 22/06/2014 15:12

Half leg and bikini wax
Eyebrow threading
Occasional pedi

Earlybird · 22/06/2014 15:18

Mani every 2 weeks
Pedi every 4 weeks (in summer, longer gaps in winter)

treaclesoda · 22/06/2014 15:22

Underarm wax every 3 weeks, various other things as and when the desire to have them and the ability to pay for them coincide. Which is sadly all too rare!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/06/2014 15:42

Underarm wax every 3-4 weeks
Facial once a month

I'm having laser hair removal so legs and bikini no longer need doing.

I would like to find the time for a regular pedicure too.

KoalaDownUnder · 22/06/2014 15:51

Ooh, I feel quite unkempt now. Blush

I'm the same as you, OP. The only thing I have done with any regularity is eyebrow waxing and occasionally eyelash tinting. And that's only once every 6-8 weeks.

Pedicure once in a blue moon in summer.

Hair removal I do at home with a razor. Don't believe in facials much; would rather spend the money on good skin products. Massages etc. I LOVE, but not in the budget.

PaperPomPom · 22/06/2014 15:54

I get eyebrow and bikini waxing every 4-5 weeks, but that's it. Nails are done at home weekly/fortnightly for feet.

MrsDavidBowie · 24/06/2014 06:58

Re finding time...I always book my next appointment after a treatment so its in the diary.

icanmakeyouicecream · 24/06/2014 08:00

Gel nails and eyebrow threading every two weeks

HappyMedium · 24/06/2014 08:54

Those of you who get regular facials, do you really notice a difference? I would love to be able to do this.

HappyMedium · 24/06/2014 08:56

PS I laser at home with Philips Lumea. Facials and massages are usually from a birthday voucher or special treat after a stressful time.

MrsDavidBowie · 24/06/2014 13:06

I'm 54 and am complimented on my skin
Few wrinkles, no sun damage and it does glow

HappyMedium · 24/06/2014 14:25

That's what I wanted to hearGrin ... Just need to get the job to fund it now....

nannynoss · 24/06/2014 14:57

Happy, my skin is prone to acne and red tinting, and looks quite dull. Whenever I can afford it, I have facials every few weeks. My skin always looks so much fresher and feels so much softer. Makeup goes on a lot better too. Not sure if anyone ever notices a difference but I feel better for it so it seems worth it to me!

PeppermintInfusion · 24/06/2014 15:35

I used to go more regularly- facial monthly, gel nails every 2-3 weeks, waxing.

Now I've started to DIY more, bought some decent quality products to do at home facials (aim for once a week or so), got an at home gel nails setup (it's great as you can do it as soon as chips start and so cheap) and do my own tan. It's a time issue for me mainly, as I can do my own facial at 10pm while watching TV but I can't go to a salon at that time.
I still go for the odd pro massage / facial every few months.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/06/2014 15:43

Ooh, Peppermint, can you recommend any products for at-home facials, please?

lurkingmurking · 24/06/2014 15:44

I've just started paying for things as courses so 6 for the price of 5. A big initial outlay but have been asking for gift vouchers to help.

I have shellac every 2/3 weeks, pedi every 4 weeks, waxing every 3 weeks

OverAndAbove · 24/06/2014 20:25

I have a gel manicure every 2.5 weeks, eyelash tint every month, facial about every 5 to 6 weeks and a back massage once a fortnight.

It's not cheap but as a PP says you can buy a course or her are always various offers on. I love it and make sure I have my appointments booked way in advance so I make time for it

rubyflipper · 28/06/2014 23:37

I work in a college and one of the perks is dirt-cheap beauty treatments. So I get a pedicure and my eyebrows shaped and tinted every month; gel nails if the college is running a course; and the odd massage. A beautician comes to my house to do any waxing from bikini line downwards - I don't want a 16-year-old doing that!

WildBillfemale · 29/06/2014 08:15

Thanks for all your comments, I think I will try to have more regular treatments rather than waiting until things are Bad and need drastic attention! re beauty colleges I recently found out there is one near me that offers really reduced price treatments so students can practice. Will look into this.

Waxing: eyebrows, upper lip and bikini once a month

Nails every 2 weeks

I go to a friend who has converted the attic of her home and is all set for everything beauty plus she has an attached playroom so you can take the kids with you.

SuperFlyHigh · 29/06/2014 11:25

Nothing right now due to finances and decent salon.

In summer I have a pedicure, sometimes manicure.

Last year I had a few Brazilians and a hollywood and eyebrow threading.

Once I get more money and find a good salon I'll return.
