Thinking of getting my helix pierced today...

Anyone had it done? Did it reeeally hurt? I don't know what made me think of it, I just fancy it, think I always have done! I'm at a loose end with no DCs this weekend and no date (another thread!) don't want to look mid-life crisis-y but I suppose it could do! Maybe I'll get a new tattoo while I'm there!! Wink What do you think??

Helix is the top/side of your ear (I had no idea it was called that til I googled it!)

iv had mine done it didnt hurt just stung a bit, and was a bit sore to lay on for a few days. Go for it

FairyBiker · 21/06/2014 08:48

I prefer the forward helix, think a stone in here looks really pretty. Would have it done if I wasn't such a wimp!

RubyReins · 21/06/2014 11:03

I have three helix piercings - didn't really hurt, smarted a little for a short time. I love them.

dexter73 · 21/06/2014 11:10

I quite fancied having mine done too but thought it was a bit mid-life crisis-y as well so didn't!

SammySockMonster · 21/06/2014 12:12

i've got a helix piercing on one ear and a forward helix on the other side. helix piercing is very very quick to do, the sting fades pretty fast but then you're in for around 3 months of ouch whenever you accidentally sleep on it/catch your hair on it. forward helix takes about 5 times as long for them to shove the needle through and it aches a bit to smile/ jiggle facial muscles about for a few days, but then relatively painless. i love both of mine!

tragus would mean being very careful about earphones. at my university it had a reputation for being a mark of rebellion amongst ex public-schoolgirls, but if you're over 25 and don't have the same hairstyle as cheska from made in chelsea, DO IT because i think they look lovely.

FTS123 · 21/06/2014 16:02

Done it! Didn't hurt a bit and I love it already, feels a bit warm now but that's all, got a tiny sparkly stud Smile

Haha sockmonster, it had a similar rep at mine too!

DaftSkunk · 21/06/2014 19:50

Has anyone had a tragus piercing? I'm very tempted......Grin

FTS123 · 21/06/2014 20:10

My sister has one, she loves it, it's very pretty Smile

I couldn't sleep on that side of my head for a few YEARS after I had mine done! Might investigate tonight whether I can still get an earring through the hole though.

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/06/2014 09:45

My feiend and I got piercings at the same time when we were 17. I got helix (dont wear a stud in it anymore but reckon I could still get one through) and my friend had the tragus. I heard it when they pushed the needle through Shock
Looked good though Grin

divingoffthebalcony · 22/06/2014 15:50

I love ear cartilage piercings. I have a tragus and a rook in my left ear, and a helix in my right. Contemplating a conch in my right ear at a later date, for balance. Can't at the moment though, as they're a bugger to heal and sleeping on that ear is impossible for months and months - in my experience anyway.

CompanionCube · 22/06/2014 16:00

I was going to say do it but see you already have. I am so jealous!

NewLeafExpat · 22/06/2014 16:33

I had a tragus piercing for ten years... decided at 30 it was time to look more adult....
anyway it took at least six months to heal. every time I accidentally answered the phone on that side or slept... it took forever unlike any other piercings I've had.

also I still have a hole there one year after taking it out...

I did love it tho.

MrsCosmopilite · 22/06/2014 16:42

I got mine done years and years ago. I wear a ring in it as it's more comfortable to sleep on that way. I do remember it took a week or so to be able to lay on it.

FTS123 · 23/06/2014 11:52

Not having a problem sleeping on it, think I've been pretty lucky! Grin
