Firefighters ball... What to wear?!

Help me!
I've been invited on a date to a firefighters ball and haven't a clue what to wear. I haven't got all 'dolled up' in years! I'm sounding a lot older than my 27 years but after becoming a single mum I never had much opportunity.
I want something elegant but sexy, don't have a clue where to start looking!

I've been to lots of these.

You need to wear a FLOOR length dress but it can be any kind. there are literally loads of them around.

A corsage and/or a nice hair updo wouldn't be out of place either.

Do you know what the dress code is? If it's black tie then you can wear full length or cocktail length, white tie is floor length only.

also (as well as what Dotty asked), how tall are you? Do you get on with heels?
