Black linen trousers

Maybe this shouldn't be in S&B as I know they are much derided on here, but my staple summer work wardrobe in a stuffy office on hot days is navy or black linen trousers but my black pair are starting to look faded and a bit scruffy so not smart enough for workwear any more.

I rarely go clothes shopping so had a quick look on the websites for the usual high street stores (Next, Dotty P, M&S, Debenhams etc etc) but I can't find any plain pure linen trousers - only 'linen blend' ie mostly viscose. Has anyone seen them this summer or am I just hopelessly out if date? I'd prefer wide or straight leg, definitely not cropped, and a proper waistband rather than drawstring/elasticated as those don't look smart enough for work. £50 or less if possible. And I'd prefer a high street store to online only as I need to try them to check the fit as it varies so much from store to store.

Thank you in advance!

I bought my pair which exactly match your description from Sainsbury's. This was a month or so ago. Hope you find what you're looking for!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 18/06/2014 19:29

Ooh never thought of Sainsbury's! We don't have one locally but I could make a bit of a detour at the weekend to see. Thank you!

I started this thread a month ago , might give you some ideas : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2069107-Where-can-I-get-a-nice-pair-of-not-too-baggy-linen-trousers.
I bought the Next cargo ones in the end, they are linen blend, but they aren't too baggy and are just about smart enough for work.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 18/06/2014 20:39

Yes, I saw that thanks, but all the links were linen blend, cropped and/or drawstring waist, as far as I could tell. I don't want a viscose blend (too floppy), or drawstring waist (too casual) I need something a bit more structured for work. I had a great pair of linen sailor trousers from Toast a few years ago but I daren't even look there as they're well out of my budget these days, Sainbo's much more like it!

I've had some fab 'formal' ones (in different lengths) from New Look

craftysewer · 18/06/2014 22:50

I also spend all of my summer wearing linen trousers. Whilst you look around for new ones why not dye the ones you have. You can usually buy a machine washable black dye in Asda or Tesco for around £5 and they work great. Refreshes your trousers so you can wear them a bit longer Smile

Sadly I think they're beyond that now Crafty - the hems are getting tatty too - but they'll have a bit of life left in them as sitting-in-the-garden trousers once they've been retired from the work wardrobe!

I have some gorgeous ones from monsoon that are 100% linen. Have you looked there?

babsmam · 19/06/2014 19:52

Sainsburys. I get them every year in a range of colours, although these are last years cos I'm a bit skint Blush but still fairing well.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 19/06/2014 19:53

Sainsburys or Next are my suggestions.

Cocolepew · 19/06/2014 19:57

I have Asda ones from last year they keep their shape really well

Sainsbury's looked lovely though I never tried them on.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 19/06/2014 20:17

Asda's black ones in my size are completely sold out Coco, fingers crossed there are some left in Sainsbo's. The Monsoon ones look lovely too. Thanks all! And if anyone spots them anywhere else, please add to the thread.

I got a pair in the Next sale for £7! They are nice and structured and DH said my bum looks nice in them. The only have size 6 and 8 left in the sale but do have others not in the sale.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 21/06/2014 17:18

Thanks to all of you who suggested Sainsburys - got a pair there today, 100% linen, fixed waistband with nice stab stitching, not too wide, choice of lengths, and - best of all - the 14 was too big and I had to get the 12! (please don't anyone rain on my parade with vanity sizing, I know deep down that's the only explanation but I just want to relish it for a short while.) Oh and they had cream, a sort of grey marl, a beige marl and navy, as well as the black, in case anyone else is looking for similar.

I'd like a navy pair, I think I'll check them out. I like Sainsburys because they do different lengths.
