what about earrings? especially if you have short hair?

I've just had my hair cropped and in the excitement of my new look I thought I would dig out some Jewelery. I finally found some stud type earrings and put them in and thought I looked awful. I've not worn any earrings for a few years now except my pearl studs to a wedding or two. (2 babies). I thought the studs looked butch and felt danglies might be too pat butcher.

what should I be wearing? smart enough for work / church/ baby groups if I'm feeling fancy is the style I'm going for, normally with dresses or chino type trousers

thanks for ideas!

When I had my crop, I wore earrings just about every day, they made me feel more feminine. I tend to go quirky though, with earrings shaped like fruit, palm trees, butterflies- I used to match them to the mood I was in on the day. Always got a lot of comments about them.

MrsMarigold my credit card is not going to thank you for that link.....

pootle I just looked up Sarah Hickey, and her designs are just gorgeous; I'd wear all those. I have a significant birthday coming up, so I might forward her website to DD! Thanks.

MrsMarigold · 19/06/2014 11:33

Ooops sorry DeXavia, if it's any consolation I'm also coveting loads on there I hadn't looked for awhile.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 19/06/2014 16:36

Chablis I got a pair for my 40th but now covet at least 3 others, a bangle and 2 necklaces! Simple yet elegant designs.

MrsMarigold · 19/06/2014 16:44

ohh those Sarah Hickey things are divine, I might get some for my mum

PootlewasthebestFlump · 19/06/2014 17:00

I'm spoilt now though because I don't want to wear any other earrings than my Sarah Hickeys!

I'm dealing with Sicky babies tonight but I will definitely be back to read and reply.

I have short hair and feel a bit OTT with dangly earrings in. I have a few pairs of studs shaped like roses in different colours which I wear, smaller for everyday and some bigger for evenings. I match to my outfit/necklace/hippie.

kaykayblue · 19/06/2014 21:48

hi poocatcher - I really hope that you like some of the suggestions! Let us know if you like any of them!

Good luck with the sickly babies - I hope it's nothing serious.

evelynj · 19/06/2014 22:24

I'm converted back to hoops (since I was 15!), with mid length hair, always wore silver but now think good suits me better. You do need to get over thinking about the stereotypes though! If I were rich Id have lots of gold danglies too!

Can't go wrong with diamonds, (carat do some excellent costume/fake diamonds in real gold/silver)

prisonerofallisurvey · 20/06/2014 12:50

Interesting thread OP. I've recently had a short hair cut and I've been thinking about having my ears re pierced so I look a little more feminine. Still undecided what to do though.

poocatcherchampion · 20/06/2014 20:03

thanks for your good wishes kaykay - small improvements in the babies but they still both have temperatures. Sad.

I like a lot of your suggestions so much so that when dh came back this evening and I ran out of the house for a break I saw some similar (cheapo) knots and bought them. too tired to try them yet but hopefully they will be good. I'm feeling enthused by it all now. (just need to be leaving the house!)

I've had short hair for about 25 years and I always wear earrings, usually with a bit of a dangle. I think dangly ones are good as they soften the hard edges of short hair.

My husband was somewhat bemused when I asked if I resembled Pat Butcher, and has assured me that I don't :)

SplatPancake · 21/06/2014 07:49

LOL at "Art teacher" - exactly how I feel in some!

I wear diamond studs or sapphire studs. Have a box of beautiful danglers built up over 20 odd years, but like lots of you stopped wearing them when dealing with small DCs. But going back to them now just looks odd. My pixie cut hasn't changed much (diff lengths, diff colours) over the sane length of time. Clearly my rapidly ageing face is affecting the appearance of the earrings!

I am loving these links though, might force myself into a little exploration...

Chachah · 21/06/2014 08:47

what's wrong about looking like an Art teacher? Sad

(I'm not one, btw! Wink)

Cocolepew · 21/06/2014 09:51

There's nthing wrong like looking like an art teacher , or a 1980's social worker. It's just not the look I go for Grin
My favourite earrings are from New Look and are diamante apples
