Can you/have you done your own acrylic nail overlays?

I'm a nail biter, the only way to stop is to have acrylic overlays. I had some temporary tips while my nails grew and now just have the acrylic painted on. It costs about £25 each time and really needs to be done twice a month, I can't help wondering if I could do it myself I think you can buy the stuff on ebay. Am I being unrealistic?

Nailene do a good kit in Asda - is ok to apply if you have a steady hand.

Have you tried gel polish though? That is much easier to apply and with all the layers is very hard to bite through! Use Sensationail at home, it's loads cheaper than going to a salon.
