......that's cheaper?

Hello. For those after a "Chanel-ish" perfume but cheaper, I always recommend Marks and Spencer "New York" from their Autograph range. It's a floral aldehyde. Has less sillage and staying power than the Chanels (not a totally bad thing, to my mind) but is available in super-cheap, hand-bag sizes, so you really can carry it with you and re-fresh yourself.

I know people rave about the Lidl one but that gives me a head-ache - though I quite like it on other people.

I think the M and S one is pretty lovely in its own right. Smile

I think next do a version of it. Haven't tried it, but have had other perfumes from there that seem decent enough.

MyrtleDove · 14/06/2014 14:00

thecat if it's a floral aldehyde then isn't it more like Chanel No5 than Chanel Mademoiselle? Mademoiselle is not a floral aldehyde, it's a patchouli/citrus/floral chypre. Totally different. I do agree that the M&S fragrance range is very good though.

I don't know if it's miles cheaper but she'd probably like Elie Saab EDP/EDT and Dolce by D&G. Elie Saab EDP is sweeter/more floral, the EDT is more citrus.

Yes, Myrtle, I think you are absolutely right: it's Chanel no. 5 that it gets compared to mostly. In all honesty, I don;t think it's a "dupe", it's more that it has a slightly Chanel-ish feel to it, which made me think it was worth investigating if you're a person who likes Chanel perfumes.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 14/06/2014 20:38

Um, can I just say that Lidl Suddenly Madame Glamour is a copy of Coco Mademoiselle and costs £3.99?

Don't know if I'm lowering the tone but honestly, it's really good.

vintagenurse · 14/06/2014 22:24

I have got Next Eau Nude which is very similiar to Coco Mademoiselle and lasts very well

Hakluyt · 14/06/2014 22:39

Polly- a cazalette fan and a Lidl shopper! My soul mate!

Thank you everyone- I will provide her with some of these and see what she thinks. Somehow I seem to have produced Audrey Hepburn when I am more of a much less pretty Barbara Good!

Grin

I kind of aspire to be a version of Barbara Good. Sadly, I think that all I match her in is having a straitened budget and a difficult husband.

Hakluyt · 14/06/2014 22:53

It's the dungarees and hay in the hair that make me resemble her.........

I don't know what other ones smell like Coco but I used to wear that and now wear some of the Marc Jacobs ones like daisy, Honeybee etc. Similar lightish sort of fragrance (not cheap though obv)!

botanicbaby · 15/06/2014 15:45

yes I have heard that the Next ones are very very good copies. Going to try that eau Nude vintagenurse mentions!
