To bikini or not to bikini, that is the question

I'm 5ft 6, size 10. Pretty straight up and down shape, small boobs, but if I put on weight I'm apple. I've not worn a bikini since I had the DC and part of me would love to, but I hate my crepey lower belly. Thoughts and recommendations?

What about a high waisted bikini? There were loads in the shops last year. I haven't looked this year though! I think they look great.

Coveredinweetabix · 11/06/2014 09:33

Go for it. Very few people are going to be looking at you as they'll be too busy worrying about their own body insecurities. Also, if your DC are young, you'll be too busy chasing them around to worry about how your tummy looks.

CanaryYellow · 11/06/2014 09:37

You see so many different shapes and sizes on holiday wearing bikinis, honestly, the only person worrying about your crepey belly is you. Go for it.

AnyFucker · 11/06/2014 09:40

Just wear a bikini and stop worrying about it

beccajoh · 11/06/2014 09:42

Reverse the situ. If you saw someone on the beach like you would you think "she's not perfect she shouldn't wear a bikini" or would you not give it a second thought?

Wear the bikini if you want to! 99% of people on the beach don't look like a Victoria's Secret model!

Neena28 · 11/06/2014 09:45

Wear it. I am a 12 and also don't have the perfect t body by a long stretch. I don't look at other people and criticise then in my head. Generally I only notice if it's a pretty bikini and I want to know where they got it!

lazypepper · 11/06/2014 10:18

It's up to you. No one else will be looking at you and judging.

If you only have a crepy lower belly to worry about then that is easy to cover up anyway. Slightly bigger pants.

Marylou2 · 11/06/2014 10:18

Wow! You are a size 10 and don't have to worry about your bikini top supporting big boobs.Get that bikini on and wear it with pride! I know everyone imagines they are being judges in their swimwear but I've come to the conclusion as I've got older that really other people are probably just enjoying their holiday.I hope your holiday is brilliant!

carrie74 · 11/06/2014 14:25

Agree with everyone else, wear the bikini. I wear mine with pride - I'm not on the beach to be judged, and if I am, it's their problem.

ChippyMinton · 11/06/2014 15:25

Do it.
Abroad, you will be more noticeable in a cossie.

MissScatterbrain · 11/06/2014 15:31

Definitely bikini - honestly no one will care and you will see all shapes and sizes.

dexter73 · 11/06/2014 16:08

I'm on holiday at the moment. Every woman is in a bikini regardless of age or size.

Passthecake30 · 12/06/2014 08:38

I would, you sound lovely and slim and I bet once you get on the beach you would wonder why you worried with some of the sights on there. ..

Plus you'd stick out like a sore thumb in a cossie

HappyGirlNow · 12/06/2014 08:44

I have a crepey belly and some stretch marks.. I also have some cellulite.. And I don't give a shit Grin Get the bikini on, I do! And honestly, when you're there and look around you at all the shapes and sizes, figures and ages you won't give a shit either Grin

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/06/2014 11:15

I always admire women of all shapes in bikinis. And a nice golden tan makes all bellies look better.

I am striving to find a good supportive bikini this year to hold my h cup boobs so I can join in.....

BubaMarra · 12/06/2014 14:49

If you are size 10, I can assure you you will look at least decent in a bikini, but more probably good. I wear bikini my whole life, including both when I was size 6 and when I was much heavier 6 months postpartum. I wasn't looking particularly good at it, but then again I wasn't on a catwalk but on a beach where average, real life people not models go. And I would have looked even worse covered up in a one piece because in my view, every model of bathing suit is so revealing that it's pointless to hide behind a bit bigger piece of fabric if we don't particularly like it.
Wear a bikini if you like it. And there are different types of bikinis, not all of them are skimpy little things.

This is a very reassuring thread.Smile

looks askance at the super-elastic, ruched, instrument of torture

HeyLuciani · 12/06/2014 16:59

I am lying on an Italian beach right now. Looking around me I can only see one tankini, all the other women (mostly Italian) are in bikinis - all ages, all sizes, plenty of ordinary wobbly bellies and bottoms! No one is looking or pointing at anyone. Everyone seems to be relaxed and having a lovely day. Honestly, don't worry, wear what you like!

WildThong · 12/06/2014 17:26

Italian beach you say.... Envy

HeyLuciani · 12/06/2014 17:35

Ok, sorry, I have to take back the no staring. An elderly man has just pitched up - mahogany tan, black and white leopard print 'posing pouch' and a silver pointy wizard style beard. But he seems to be very popular with the gaggle of old ladies sitting next to me so I doubt he gives a shit what anyone else thinks!

HeyLuciani · 12/06/2014 17:38

Sorry wildthong, on my hols, tis lovely Grin

TheBogQueen · 12/06/2014 17:40

On god

Once you've sat on a beach in Spain and watched every nationality let it all hang out, literally - saggy bobs, tummy etc you won't care

Get that bikini

specialsubject · 12/06/2014 18:54

put on a bikini and a load of suncream, and enjoy.

or boardies with bikini look really good on tall slim women like you.

NorbertDentressangle · 12/06/2014 18:56

Go for it!
