Help! Going to wedding at 13 weeks pregnant and nothing to wear

Bicnod · 09/06/2014 20:32

I am going to be 13 weeks pregnant with DC3 when we go to this wedding and I already (at 11 weeks) have a bit of a bump and my boobs have got quite a bit bigger.

But I don't look massively pregnant, and would imagine I won't look massively pregnant in 2 weeks time, I just have a bit of a belly.

So I can't wear normal maternity dresses as they look ridiculous - ordered 6 off ASOS and could tell that some would have looked lovely with a bigger bump, but looked silly with my barely there bump.

And I can't wear my normal dresses as they are just hugely unflattering in the tummy area :(

The only dress that looks vaguely nice is one that I picked up from a charity shop ages ago and wore lots before I was pregnant - it's stretchy so fits nicely and makes it obvious I'm pregnant rather than flabby. But I can't wear that one as it isn't nice enough for a wedding (it's a bit worn - nice for pub but not nice for wedding).

Sooooo... if you've made it this far (!) please please help me find something that will be vaguely flattering at this most unflattering time. Probably something with a bit of stretch but probably not a full on maternity dress at this stage.

I'm usually a size 10, I'm 5' 7" and I am not hugely body confident - I wouldn't wear anything very short or very revealing.

I am at your mercy oh wise style and beauty ladies Thanks

What colours do you like?
Budget?

jimmybim · 09/06/2014 21:49

Phase eight dresses could work.
For example, this is jersey with pleats around the waist that would help hide your tummy. Add a pashmina and heels.
Phase eight

Thanks so much Jimmy. That's nice but think I'd prefer something plain rather than patterned, I don't really wear flowery patterns ever.

I like purples, blues, greens. Not really into pastelly or very light colours as I'm quite pale and can easily look washed out.

Budget around £100.

Next have a lace stretch maternity dress in navy or dark red; might work now and when your bump is bigger?

PragmaticWench · 10/06/2014 08:48

Or lots of places do beautiful maxi dresses and an empire line one would skim your stomach but emphasise your new larger chest! It could work throughout the summer dressed down.

Bicnod · 10/06/2014 13:02

Hmm. Just had a look at the Next dress and it looks lovely, but I wonder if it would be a bit hot/dark for a summer wedding? I think something in that style but a slightly lighter colour (having said I don't like pale colours - fickle) would be perfect, but not sure where to start looking for that.

I can't seem to find any empire line maxi dresses that I like anywhere.

ARGH!

This is nice, although might need dressed up a bit for a wedding.

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 15:14

Over budget but looks like it would be flattering.

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 15:17

Not sure that second link works - look up "Gina Bacconi draped jersey dress" on John Lewis website.

Bicnod · 10/06/2014 15:32

dingalong - it's a nightmare isn't it? I think I'm going to have to resign myself to just looking a bit tubby :(

Do they even do maternity spanx?!

SunnySunday I absolutely love that Gina Bacconi dress - it's gorgeous. Not sure I can stretch to £140 though. Hmmm.

tethersend · 10/06/2014 20:45

Maternity Spanx

They're bloody brilliant, BTW.

jimmybim · 10/06/2014 22:10

Bargains but possibly too warm
teal
navy

Something like this could work too
red

sotiredfornow · 10/06/2014 23:34

I just got an update from a blog I follow and immediately thought of this thread I read earlier.

How about this dress worn by Holly Willoughby on This Morning today?

The length would be perfect for you at 5'7 and as it's stretch/bodycon it could work with a 13 wk bump without being too gapey. It's not revealing and the lace makes it wedding-y especially with the right accessories.

Bicnod · 11/06/2014 07:36

Tethersend - I love the blue Mary Portas one, will think about ordering that later to try on.

Will also consider maternity spanx... they are a pretty scary looking piece of kit though Shock

Jimmy - I think the first two would be to warm and I can't do strapless as I just keep hoiking... I can't leave it alone Grin

Tired (me too by the way) I love love love that dress but just checked and it has sold out in a 10. Argh!
