Central London shops but not Oxford Street?

Morning ladies,

I'm off to meet my friend in a bit for some lunch and shopping. She lives in NE London and I live in SW London so it'll have to be somewhere central, Oxford Street is horrible at the weekends though.

I can only think of Kensington High street as central ish. Doesn't have to be anywhere fancy just normal high street chains and food.

TIA :)

One of the Westfield shopping centres?

plantsitter · 08/06/2014 10:45

Canary wharf is not central but is bloody lovely to shop in at weekends! Easy to get to, too.

Covent garden is quite good but presumably as busy as Oxford St.

MiloSimpson · 08/06/2014 10:47

I live in central London but I'm useless at making suggestions! Marylebone High St or Victoria (Victoria St area)

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 08/06/2014 11:08

Kings Road has better shopping than High St Ken (it's good, but some shops have closed). Brompton Rd, Knightsbridge is good, too. Have a nice time!

The Angel/Islington area.

Covent garden - the bit towards 7 Dials I mean - is great. Or Marylebone High St.

EdithWeston · 08/06/2014 11:33

Kings Road?

Lndnmummy · 08/06/2014 13:15

Kings road!

polyhymnia · 08/06/2014 13:26

Definitely recommend Marylebone High St.

twostepsister · 08/06/2014 13:27

Kings road or Knightsbridge

Artandco · 08/06/2014 13:28

Sloane sq/ kings road, nice shops, not all chains, and nice cafes

luckypeach · 08/06/2014 13:52

St. Christopher Square just off Bond Street is nice and quickly gives you an escape from the hustle & bustle of Oxford street. A few chain shops and cafes/bars as well as independents. Then a short walk from there up to Marylebone Smile

Blackjackcrossed · 08/06/2014 14:01

Islington is nice for a stroll and lunch.

MsVenus · 08/06/2014 21:39

Brunswick centre opposite Russell Sq
tube for a few high st chains & eating places.

LaFataTurchina · 09/06/2014 09:34

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies.

We ended up trying to walk to sloane square from waterloo as it was such a lovely day but accidently ended up in vauxhall. By the time we got there we were far too hot and bothered to do any actual shopping but oh well we had a nice walk along the thames. Sloane square/Kings Road was lovely though so I'll def be going again.
