What shoes should I wear with this dress?

I've bought this dress to wear at an interview. (Ignore the model in the photo - when you're 5 foot nothing, it's knee length and possible interview wear with a cardigan)

The website shows it with bare legs and sandals, which wouldn't be suitable. Would you go for skin tone fishnet tights with this or thicker coloured tights? What shoes would you wear - flats or heels?

TIA

What's the job? Tbh I'm not sure it will be appropriate for an interview, unless for a v casual job.

I would go for flats and dark tights. I've worn dresses like that to interviews, it's a lovely dress - and also being very short too I know it will look very different and actually a lot smarter on a short arse!

But because the dress itself is quite memorable, I'd make everything else quite plain. If it is a very warm day then nude tights (always tights, NOT fishnet for an interview) and dark ballet pumps, if it is a colder day then dark tights. Possibly even a smart cardigan that brings out a colour in the dress?

FWIW, I wore a dress to a very smart law firm interview that was slated on here and was complimented it after the interview (which I got) Grin

It's a senior job in a library, so formal, but I wanted to wear a dress that got a balance between smart and memorable without being "librarian stereotype", pencil skirt, blouse etc. if that makes sense. I have a navy cardigan to go with it.

I was going to wear fishnets as my legs aren't great but the issues are less noticeable in flesh tone fishnets than normal tights so I think I'll go for dark tights and flats.

There's a presentation as well as an interview so I have to stand up and be comfortable, walk around at the front of an audience etc.

Grin You'll never guess what my job is... legal sector, but same thing! Small world!

I agree, feeling comfortable in an outfit which is still smart is much more important than wearing a suit or shirt which you constantly pull at.

Nosy now, where's the interview (roughly)?

MrsBungle · 07/06/2014 20:59

Could you wear a navy blazer rather than a cardi? I'd wear heels.

SuperFlyHigh · 07/06/2014 21:07

Wear a blazer not cardigan.

Flats may be better than heels. Please not fishnets even nude ones you're not going on a night out! And it is a library j

Job.

MaebeB, the job is in an academic library, outside of London she says cagily as I don't know how many people are being interviewed

We'll slowly change the interview wardrobe for librarians, one frock at a time. Grin

I wore a dress someone on here described as a 'wedding outfit'! We librarians are a surprisingly chilled lot nowadays. Though personally I'm quite glad it has all moved on from the early 2000's uniform of boots and a knee-length cord skirt...

Ps - good luck!
